Liverpool do want to sign German full back Marcel Schmelzer from Dortmund, but the player has only recently signed a new contract and Liverpool are unwilling to meet the price that Dortmund will accept for the player. AC and Barca are also said to have been interested in the player in recent years, and if Dortmund decide to sell it could start a bidding war pushing up the price even further.

Southampton are willing to use their wealth to persuade their South Coast rivals to let them talk to David about a possible move in the summer by paying them a fee that would help them out with their financial problems.
Clearly someone is not too bright as nugent is out of contract, why would you chose to pay a fee?
