We need two strong central midfielders, welowski is injury prone and furman is not good enough to be starting never mind be captain!
1- Furman is one of the best cm's in our league.
2- A captains main quality is his leadership, not his technical ability.

Jarvis is an awesome player but I don't think we will get to sign him this season nor think we should. Signed Kightly which is as effective as Jarvis. Instead we should can our interest in Owen because he is just going to be a dissapointment and use the funds that could be spent on Jarvis to link Crouch back up with Defoe! We need goals this year and he can provide them!

I think seeing as news got out and he'd be an impressive signings we should offer more. It's only another million EURO's on what we already offered so go to 12.5 million pounds we should be successful. Also media said the 11.8 was accepted.
I think the Bologna chairman is just posturing and dragging this out personally. He may well feel he has a valuation that he doesn't want to budge on but as we have been a million times before he will I'm sure negotiate an agreement. Otherwise he has an unhappy star player on the eve of a season when he could take a couple of mill euros less and get a replacement in.
My main fear is that with all this being played out so publicly a bigger club may gate crash the deal.

Ramirez has said himself we have offered him a lot of money & he wants to move. You can't talk to a player & agree terms with a unless a fee is agreed. I believe the issue is how the fee is to be paid (installments etc). This deal is not dead. Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be another Buttner scenario. In Cortese we trust. Would love us to sign Matty Phillips too. COYR!! {Ed001's Note - you can be given permission to speak to a player without agreeing a fee, it is up to the selling club to decide.}

Thanks. {Ed001's Note - Bologna have not been easy to deal with, hence why Southampton have the chance to seal a deal. I still expect them to sort something out though, Cortese is a very shrewd operator. Phillips I am unsure of, something has certainly turned his head, all summer he has been telling people he is happy at Blackpool for one more season, at least. Now he suddenly wants out for his Scotland place, so something has changed his mind, but Oyston is a very tough man to make a deal with, unless he wants the deal. I think Southampton might end up facing the same treatment other clubs were getting over Adam in the January window while Blackpool were in the Prem. Simply put, Oyston will just refuse to discuss any deal with them, in my opinion. Buttner I believe is no longer going to happen and the deal I am told is dead.}
The clubs will meet on Monday and the talks look set to complete. They will be buying the 70% stake owned by Bologna for around 13 million pounds it seems but may pay more. They will then have to buy the 30% owned by his previous club and pay off the agent as well.
You can't make that garuntee. According to the Bologna chairman this is going to have to restart on Monday due to issues so maybe it is happening and maybe not. It does sound like it will happen based on the fact it reached contract talks previously.

There is a significant difference in the Lallana situation in that although both managers were determined to keep their players, Lallana wanted to stay while Phillips wants away. {Ed001's Note - Holloway wanted to sell Adam in the January, for the reason you mention, but Oyston just refused point blank. Oyston will make the decision and it will be the one he believes to be right for the club, whether anyone else agrees with him or not. He is extremely stubborn and will not be held to ransom by a player and nor should he be. Phillips should just concentrate on playing to his best and if the deal comes, it comes.}

Southampton have agreed a club record deal with Bologna for Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez. Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese has brokered the deal, which is believed to be worth €15million (£11.8million).

Bournemouth could do with another striker to cover DeMouge, sherringham, McQuoid injuries and tubbs and thomas not able to play together.
He's a local lad, but doubt he'd go from Liverpool in the Prem to Oldham in League 1.

It now seems to have gone dead as last years league two top scorer didn't want to drop into non league football.

The wage is reported to be around 70,000 a week - a wage level that put Tottenham off of him, after they had agreed a transfer fee.
Presently Southampton's highest earner is believed to be Rickie Lambert on 30,000 a week.
The first poster is correct in saying this will smash our past and present wage structure.
I think he'd be less that 70k per week and a lot would come in add ons. I imagine a maximum of 50k per week will be offered with possible add ons for performance.
The wage is SORTED 2.5m Euro's per calender year, which is roughly 48k p/w which i'm guessing is £40k p/w which is only 10k p/w more than what Lallana and Lambert are on. That is hardly smashing the wage structure, especially for such a big name.

As a follower of Scottish football, I have been able to take in Bartley's performances for Rangers over the last 1.5 seasons and he is an absolute bomb scare. ky Sports understands Southampton have agreed a club record deal with Bologna for Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez.
The 21-year-old had been approached by Tottenham, Liverpool and Inter Milan earlier this summer.
But now newly-promoted Southampton are on the verge of a huge coup by landing the midfielder, who has just had an excellent Olympic campaign for Uruguay.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins was looking for a big name attacking midfielder and had failed with a bid for PSV Eindhoven's Dutch international Jeremain Lens, but he switched his attentions to Ramirez and looks to have got his man.
Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese has brokered the deal, which is believed to be worth €15million (£11.8million).
Ramirez has confirmed he is ready to fly to England to conclude a move to St Mary's.

"Bologna will tell me on Friday if I can move," he told the Corriere dello Sport.
"The truth is that I think, yes, this time I am moving. Bologna has reached an agreement with Southampton, and there are only a few details to be found but the agreement in principle is done."
Ramirez admits that Southampton have offered him very good terms, and he is happy to become a key player for them.
"The English club has reached an agreement with me, it is the classic offer that you cannot refuse for my life as a whole and my family.
"But they believe in me in every way, I will be essential and above all they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top-flight but they will become a big team in years to come.

I am a southampton supporter,but I was one of the doubters, until we sort out the CB problem, we can have ramirez, villa, and van perise up front but if we cannot defend to save our lives having a good attack will not save us.
