Football Rumours Archive December 16 2008

Use our rumours form to send us football transfer rumours.

First things first, I wish people would stop spouting utter rubbish on this site. It is a rumour site and not a Football Manager site. Please leave the house, trousers up preferably, and try and find a life!!

Now, I have seen a few rumours that are supposedly “the truth” and the “real thing” from an inside source. Inside a lunatic asylum maybe.

Examples:–

Heskey being sold for £9 – 11m FACT
Pennant for £5m THE TRUTH
Man City to sign the whole world RELIABLE SOURCE
Mancini to be new Sunderland boss NIALL QUINNS DOG WHISPERED IT TO ME

They have 6 months to go on a contract, why would clubs spend that much money on them; especially Heskey?

Also, bravo to the guy who said Owen would sign for Wigan and Heskey to sign a new contract, it was one of the funniest comments made on this site, ever! I’m still laughing at how stupid it is.

Now, real rumours:–

Liverpool are looking to cash in on Babel as he has struggled to adapt to premiership life with the Pool! He is failing to impress in training and will be kept till the summer as cover, in case of injuries etc to other players.

Expect Degen to be sent out on loan and Finnan to return to the club as cover for Arbeloa.

Robbie Keane may get special dispensation to return to Spurs in January, with the remaining debt wiped off (£17m) and £2 million of the £3.75 already paid as first instalment being returned to Liverpool. Essentially Keane would have been a bit part £1.75m short term loan player.

Not too sure how truthful these rumours are, just been informed by a pal who knows someone at the club.

Mcwhirter the Truth Finder (FACT, AN INSIDERS DOG TOLD MY LEFT BUTT CHEEK ALL ABOUT THESE ABOVE; LOL)
I still see that all the Man City fans are living in a dream world. The only reason you got Robinho is because it was his passport to the premier league and chelsea. Yes he will be leaving in the summer and it will be to chelsea. You are not going to be spending hundreds of millions on star players such as Torres, Aguero, Kaka, Henry and the rest you have been saying about. All of the players you City fans have mentioned are title contending players not possible relegation players.

Fact is your tranfers targets for January are:
Stephen Warnock
Roque Santa Cruz
Lassana Diarra.

Ill be back in Febuary to gloat about Man Citys average signings in January. Hopefully by then you would have come out of that eastlands dreamworld and realised you are fighting against relelgation with, West Brom, Blackburn and Sunderland.

The current league table if you have not noticed lately.

Here are my thoughts on the upcoming transfer window, a look ahead and my thoughts on the future.

Liverpool, Top of the table but for how long? Playing as a true team for the first time in many years, but with no real depth in the squad and thus will struggle to win the league. Rafael Benítez tatically is good but lacks vision on buying players. Transfers, not a lot, a few squad players might leave and be replaced at no cost. The future, I think liverpools real problem is the direction of the club, out has gone liverpool of old, the family owned club, with real values and with the best youth policey in the country. In comes a large corrprate company that’s profit driven and puts profit above all else. The desire to keep up with Utd in the spending league as nearly bankrupted the club, heavally in debt with no real way of paying it back. Forget the league the best Christmas presant will be a solid rich buyer, before the bank of scotland ask for there money back.

Man utd, not looking as strong as usual this season seem to be lacking something, but still have so much depth and cover and will be up there in the mix at the end. The future? I have my worries with the debt they carry; it has to be paid back at some point yet year on year it increases. When will the bubble pop, will it pop? Who knows, but I do think the days of 30M+ players coming in without one leaving are coming to an end. Expect a world class midfielder in the summer, to replace the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. I think a few more older squad players will be on the move as Utd look to trim the wages and squad size, with Ferguson looking more to his youth coming through than the over inflated player prices.

Chelsea, in my eyes the best team in the league, just slightly better than Utd. Money is a real issue here again, with nearly 60% knocked of the many parts of the stock market Roman Abramovich would have lost big time. Expect a much more fruggle chelsea and a change in direction away from massive player buys as chelsea try to balance the books.
Drogba to leave, world class striker in net spend Zero.

Man city despite been loaded will struggle to attract big names as its now clear they won't be in the champions league next year regardless who they buy and at this rate they could be Playing The MK Dons. This on top of the fact that I can not really see Clubs like Liverpool selling There star players such as Torres in Jan, even if 100M was offered Id doubt Mr. Torres would be happy with the idea. But 50M in the summer would be hard for Liverpool to refuse.

Villa will continue to spend With O’Neil continuing to look for younger English players, And a top four finish is really within there reach. If over the next couple of years they can hold on to there best players, they could end up challenging for more than a top four place.

Everton will struggle to attract players of a higher pedigree than they all ready have. Money being more of an issue than prestige, Uefa cup place again ids say.

Harry Redknapp will wheel and deal and come out with a more balanced team at no extra expense in Jan. I expect Spurs to spend big in the summer and this time with a good manager, buy well!!.The future is bright down at white hart lane, and I predict them to be challenging for the top four next year.

Arsenal, I feel sorry for Mr. Wenger, in my mind one of the best managers around today if not the best, and it is only Arsenals lack of real hard cash in wages paid to keep player, that stop them ruling the roost and he is with out doubt the reason Arsenal are still in the top four. But Pound for pound spent and sold on players Arsenal are punching above there weight, so it has to be put down to Wengers vision and tactical brilliance that arsenal are still a fantastic team. I hear people calling for him to be sacked, What!!! With out him Arsenal will end up an upper mid table team looking for a uefa cup place, a Team struggling with a large debt and a succession of mediocre managers. I expect Arsenal to continue with there transfer policy and I would not be surprised if Wenger finds some great buys but will it be enough to stop the slow slide?

{editor's note – just wanted to point out that arsenal's wage bill (according to their chairman in many interviews) is higher than all other english clubs bar man utd and chelsea}

Newcastle, I do love the Geordie’s, A great fan base, great ground, great heart, great Family club, Ruined by a succession of bad chairmen, worse managers (no offence but Keegan is not good enough) and poor player purchases and offloads. Until Newcastle sort this out the futures bleak. If they do, the world there oyster, we need clubs like Newcastle to do well, if the monopoly of the big four is to be truly stopped. Transfer wise don’t expect a lot as Ashley won’t be spending a penny.

Middlesboro, Transfers none, Future Im starting to like and rate Gareth Southgate, He’s stating to show good skills and awareness in the transfer market, his team always plays to the best of its ability, and he’s young. Middlesboro deserve credit for this as they have stood by him through thick and thin, and now can repe the rewards. Keep him and who knows where he will take you.

Sunderland, Transfer budget, what ever the new manager wants, Future, you might of liked him, most of the country did not, Football and yourselves are better off without him, once a bully always a bully in my books. A team mostly full of bad buys and wasted money, need a good manager and quick, find one and you might save yourselves, don’t and it’s away to the MK Dons next season

Blackburn, Transfer budget what ever the new manager wants with in reason, future relegation dog fight but have the players to get them out of it. Ince? What were you thinking!!.

Hull City, Transfers none of note, Future, relegation next season, by the time your best players have been picked over by the vultures of the premier league in the summer you will be done for. This season a top half finish at worst a uefa cup place at best; I hope it’s the Uefa as you deserve it, great team spirit and great manager.

West Brom, Transfers, not sure, will they spend to try and save them selves, or save it for the championship next year I don’t know. Future, there will be no great escapes this time, should have kept Philips, but except them to give it there all till the end.

West ham, Transfers, only fringe players leaving im afraid, future depends on a certain court case. Lose it and it could spell trouble next year. This year just a little to strong to go down.

Portsmouth, Transfers, none in Jan, but expect to see many players leave in summer, as the Redknapp factor vanishes. Future ,not looking good down at Fraton park, moneys tight, your best asset has left you, to be followed by some of the players he brought. Adams is not good enough and is living off Redknapps team. Safe this year, but a hard year to follow in 2009/2010.

Stoke, Bolton, Fulham, Wigan, Sorry to group you all together but I don’t have a lot to say, Transfers, only fringe players coming and going, all four should survive but expect a bottom half finish.

Pompey rumours

Adam's need balance in midfield quickly, the Newcastle defeat showed it. Right midfielders interesting Adam's are Milos Krasic, Benayoun and Pennant. We really need an influential midfielder such as Jonathan De Guzman, Ismael Aissati or Michael Johnson. I doubt we could afford any of these guys, but someone who can score from long range, make a killer pass for Defoe or Crouch to get on the end of to score. We are really lacking that edge at the moment. Jimmy Bullard or Kevin Nolan would be very ideal.

To all the sellik fans who are worried about rangers debts why don't you worry about your own team ? Rangers only have debts of aprox 15 million and that's including all the money that we have spent on players the last few years . As i am a rangers share holder it is against the law to keep things like that from us so just worry about your own team ! There is no point in making 15 million if your not going to spend it ! see you have already started by buying paddy McCourts understudy from derry city that shows how high your boards ambitions are ! Mibi we are not in the best of shape and have sold some of our best players who were both very good buisness ! But at least we have spent the money on the team ! un like you lot all you have spent in the last two years is about 4 mill net while desmond lines his pockets with all your money ! Rangers to sell bougerra for 5 million release daily hemdani sell burke adam smith and beasley and buy Berra and driver for 5 mill and lovenkrands to come back for a nominal fee ! We are the people
Celtic – having only told 3 rumours on here before (McCourt / Robson / Lee Miller – so 2/3 not bad) about celtic targets I have on good authority that in January the following will happen (Niall McGinn 200k + add–ons – Derry / Michael Kadlec – Slavia Prague free / Stuart Downing – Middelsboro £6m) and one of 3 strikers will be sought (Craig Bellamy £5m permament / Robbie Keane – loan to end of season / Arshavin – loan till end of season (the rangers rumours about him are perpetuated by the fact Zenit are bossed by former gers gaffer Advocaat but it's celtic who are possibly leading the chase)). The strikers situation id deemed paramount as JVoH is out for longer than anticapted and the form of Samaras/McDonald/Sheridan is not title winning at present. McGeady WILL be allowed to go if £8m min is offered, as will Balde/Killen/Donati IF right offer received – balde's would be personal terms.
Andriy shevchenko will be brought by tottenham as redknapp believes the expectations of him at chelsea was way too much and a fresh start at tottenham is all that he needs. Redknapp also believes that he can help shevchenko find his goalscoring touch again. Shevchenko is keen but is wary of leaving milan again AND taking a major pay cut
Not a rumour, just to answer a few excited minds – Michael Owen will NOT leave Newcastle in January. The Toon are locked in a relegation fight and they will need him in the black and white scoring goals. It may well be the case that he leaves for nothing in the Summer should the club fail to keep him with a contract offer, but staying to the end of the season buys the club time to keep the pressure on him and also find a buyer for the club which would inveitably have an effect of his decision to stay or go. I guarantee you Micheal Owen will be a Newcastle United player on the 1st of Feb 2009.
To the person that said Portsmouth will sign Walcott for 6 million, you sir are in dreamland.
Real rumours for January's major signings are:
Giovinco – Arsenal (Loan – permanent deal in summer)
Jay Simpson – West Brom (Loan)
Mareque and Suazo – Newcastle (£3m + £7m)
Defoe – Tottenham (£2m + Zokora)
L.Diarra – Man City (£15m)
Santa Cruz – Portsmouth (£11m)

Not many transfers in Januray as there never is in January because clubs don't want to sell.
Some mad ideas popping up at the moment. I really can't see a great deal of activity from anyone in January except for Man City. Every other team must be feeling the credit crunch.

As for all the rumours regarding Liverpool, Rafa has a list of wanted players as long as both his arms, but with the lack of funds none of these can be a reality at the moment. The first priority is to get rid of players like Jermaine 'Jack Daniels' Pennant and Yossi Benayoun to be replaced by a better and more consistent winger like Kuba or Valencia. Another striker should be sought also, maybe a loan deal for an unwanted frontman like Adriano as back–up.

Remember people, money is tight so some more realistic links unless you are talking about Man City in which case adopt the Dream Team mentality.
I heard that rangers have sent scouts to russia to watch Arshavin, i would have thought he would be too expensive but apparently not. Also Rangers looking into the possibilty of trying to get Jonny Evans on loan from Man U and try to sign Wayne Routledge, who has fallen out of favour with whatever club he is with Aston Villa.

Arsenal and Tottenham to battle it out for Artur Boruc's signature as both clubs believe their keepers are unreliable.
AS U ALL UNDERSTAND CHELSEA IS IN TRANSITON N WHAT WE ARE REALLY LOOKING OUT FOR IS HOW MANY TROPHIES WE CAN WIN THIS SEASONS THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS EVEN TOUGH WE HAVE LOST TO ARSENAL N LIVERPOOL AT HOME BUT COME THE END OF THE SEASON N AFTER WE CROWNED THE ENGLISH N EUROPEAN CHNAPIONS I DONT THINK NE1 WILL B MUCH BOTHERED ABOUT HOW WE WENT ABOUT COLLECTING POINTS MAYB MORE AWAY FROM HOME.

SO THIS SEASON WILL ESTABLISH CHELSEA AS ONE OF THE CLUBS TO BEAT IN EUROPE N FROM THIS WE CAN BUILD ON AN TAKE BUILD FUTURE ON THE STRONG FOUNDATION AVAILABLE.

THE PLAN FROM NOW ON WILL B A BIT DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE DOING WE WILL B SOME OF THE BEST YOUNG TALENT AROUND THE GLOBE N MOVE THEM TO THE FIRST TEAM AFTER PROPER GROOMING LIKE BARCELONA AND AT THE SAME TIME IF THERE IS A PLAYER THAT IS DIFFERENT N HAS QUALITY N WILL ADD TO OUR SQUAD WE WILL SURELY BUY HIM

MOST PROBABLE TRANFERS THIS YEAR:
1)ALEX MAY B SOLD N MANCEINE WILL REPLACE HIM
IN THE FIRST TEAM ALONG WITH IVANOVIC TERRY,N CARVALHO
IVANOVIC HAS SETTLED WELL IN CHELSEA AND IS ENJOYING PLAYING WITH THE BEST N CAN ALSO PLAY AS RIGHT BACK

2)FERREIRA,CUDUCINI,PIZZARO,SHEVCHENKO WILL ALL B SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDERS

3)WE R LOOKING OUT SOME WORLD CLASS WINGERS N WILL SIGN 2 OF THEM N WILL SELL MALOUDA AS HE IS PRETTY SLOW N NOTUPTO THE MARK

4)KALOU MAY B SOLD AS HE IS AN AVERAGE PLAYER WHO IS A JACK N CAN PLAY IN A LOT OF POSITIONS BUT IS NOT EXACTLY TOP CLASS BUT IS A VERY GOOD SQUAD PLAYER

5)zaki from wigan, orlando sa a future star of potugal, wagner love or luis fabiano will b signed

6)atleat 3 kidz will b sgning every year n the same number will b moved to first team
Graeme Souness to take over as Blackburn rovers manager once again and will make tugay assistant manager.

Hi guys, jst heard sum major wheelings n dealings between tottenham and sum spanish sides.
suposedly highly ratd spanish players think harry redknapp is sum sort of messiah, shame keedan dint gt that reaction eh.

pavlyuchenko to Athletico Madrid along with 3 mil to sign diego forlan.
if lennon goes to real, tottenham will ask for sjneider or drenthe in return + sum cash.
finally on the tottenham front, supposedly real betis are interested in signing Gomes (i cant believe it either). aparently they've seen him perform wel in the eufa cup for PSV and think he could get them there. amazing isnt it.

othr spanish league deals:
arango(mallorca–Newcastle) 11mil
pepe(madrid–chelski) 7mil + alex
rafael sobis (betis–arsenal) 12mil

aparently steve bruce of wigan athletic is interested in a large numbr of spanish youngsters as he feels they can rival the english youngsters of arsene wenger's. i don't think so bt we'll see wot happens.

TRUST
I have it on good authority from my pal at NUFC the Michael Owen has an agreement that he will leave the club in January for a fee rather than walk away in the summer for nowt. The Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher factor seem to have talked Rafa Benitez into resigning him for Liverpool. The fee will be miniscule (£2m) but Newcastle don't want to be shafted big time and will take the £2m on offer
West Ham want to sell Bellamy as he is constantly injured, doesn't score enough and is not a very pleasant person. Zola & Clarke do not want to sell their prized assets Green & Upson.
I just gotta laugh at these rumours some times, every single one is a load of bull. Why would Barca want Wenger when Guardiola is proving to be an exceptional Manager and has them clear at the top of La Liga and playing brilliant football? One rumour I know from someone on the Arsenal board is that Thierry Henry, up until around a month ago was bombarding Arsene with phone calls begging to come back to Arsenal. But Wenger says he will never bring anyone back once there gone. I just hope that doesn't include Upson who I believe would be a great buy.
Yes i know both o'neill and laursson himself have denied any link to henrik laursson coming to villa but he was seen at the villa training ground on friday. this is a fact, but it doesn't mean hes signing for villa.
B4 u read my transfers. these r truthful cuz i dnt see the point in puttin loads of rubbish on the site

man city january transfer window r believed to be bidding for the following

kaka – £55m
henry – £25m
eto'o – £45m
ramos – £30m
terry – £25m
gerrard and torres – £125m joint bid
  Strachan is heading to Sunderland
McGeady is off to Newcastle for 8M
Balde is being looked at by several MLS teams

Jan window Robbie Keane will go to celtic on loan. This will not turn into a perm deal. Liverpool see this an a good place to get his confidence up again.

Celtic will have a new manager within 24 hours of Strachan leaving. It will be Mark Hughes.
West Ham United are using the "credit crunch scheme" for their own good as they are telling the media they won´t be making any signings because the club is 'skint', the media believes it of course. West Ham have learnt from their prior mistake when they told the media that they had money to spend and were going to strengthen the squad with several signings, the result was simply that other clubs wanted more for players West Ham bidded for.

The media really loves to tell stories about west Ham, some more then others enjoy to write made up negative stories and linking our players with other clubs and so on.

That is not the case, like Zola has said he will not sell his 'best' players or the ones he considers are needed in his squad, the clubs finances are sound and are in no debt.

The fact is Zola has money to spend and will make signings in January.

Zola is interested in quite a few players and here are the names of some of them.

Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria)
Marek Hamsik (Napoli)
Alexis Sánchez (Udinese)
Alessandro Rosina (Torino)
Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria)
Davide Lanzafame (Palermo)
Mattia Cassani (Palermo)
Lorenzo De Silvestri (Lazio)
Goran Pandev (Lazio)
Alessio Cerci (Roma)
Simone Padoin (Atalanta)

WHUFC
With Galas set 2 leave 2 Juventus, Wenger is lining up Brede Hangeland of Fulham for about 8million Pounds his other target is Matthew Upson should a move 4 Hangeland fail. Eboue may also b sold if the right price comes in, interested suitors are Lyon and Juventus. If Eboue leaves Mahamadou Dabo will come to North London from St Etiene 4 aout 8million Pounds
  GOODISON RUMOUR!
I hear from a good source that a young talent from Tranmere Rovers, Alan Croft, will be snapped up by Everton in January for the bargain fee of £500 000.
My source is a scout, and says that he has a keen nose for goal and has some crafty skills.
I have some rather reliable (a rarity on here I know!) which states that Aiden McGeady will be leaving Celtic in the January transfer window. His destination will be the famous FC Bayern Munchen. Contrary to many reports on his departure, the fee will not be 10 million. Instead, the initial fee will be 6.5 million, rising to 9 million if certain conditions are met. Jurgen Klinsmann is keen to get him in now, as Franck Ribéry is likely to leave the Allianz Arena in the summer, and the paymasters are keen to see the squad bolstered to meet the unexpected challenge of Hoffenheim. I have no definitive news as yet on Celtic's signing targets, but I expect they shall be younger players, as opposed to established English Premiership players who command wages outwith Celtic's parameters.
Arsene Wenger has drawn up a short list of players that he would like to bring to Arsenal.
Alex – Chelsea
Brede Hangeland – Fulham
Steven Defour – Standard Liege
Yohan Cabaye – Lille
Eden Hazard – Lille
Miguel Veloso – Sporting
Sebastian Giovinco – Juventus
Diego Capel – Sevilla,
These are the players that are believed to be on the hitlist for the Gunners boss.
