It looks like Newcastle will announce 2 more signings this week with Obertan and PSV full back Pieters coming in although i dont think this means Jose is definatly going as Newcastle have had no bids for him yet and have been looking for cover at left back for 3 years.

Could someone please explain what this is all about?

I get to watch a lot of German Bundesliga matches and am very familiar with Per Mertesacker. Yes, he's very good - but maybe not fast enough or slick enough to succeed in Germany. (I think the same can be said for Niklas Bendtner - he's be a world beater playing for Bayern or even Werder Bremen)

However....the same could perhaps have been said of one Tony Adams. he wasn't blessed with blazing speed but he quite well for Arsenal. Per has some of the same qualities that Tony had so....

If he isnt fast or slick enough to succeed in germany, then how come he did? surely you meant in england, and maybe you'd be right then.

As Paul Lambert has stated that Norwich City's cheque book is closed until january i thought i'd open up the forum to a discussion on signing (in the january transfer window) which norwich may need to help them stay up?
For example a move might be made for Dani Pechecko if norwich's attack need extra bolstering.. {Ed003's Note - Can we get August out of the way first,lol}

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Nothing like wishing your life away is there? Come january you might be in dire straits in the league, no manager etc. Wake up

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you expect him to sign for a so called bigger club then? because one thing is for sure Norwich will not be sacking him in January what ever the results this year, so the only possibility would be if he jumped ship,The Board and Fans are 110% behind him, the best young manager in UK right now, who will eventually manage at one of the top 4/5 clubs in premier.

All top flight football players are greedy, and I was told that Sunderland have a wage cap of £35k. So does not look like Sunderland will get him (Bellamy), think he would rather sit in the stands getting his currant wages than player for less than what he is getting now. Thats the promblem with modern day footy players got no pride, heart or passion for the game any more. Just want to train for 2-3hrs a day, go waste there money on things we only wish for because they have got nothing else better to do. I personal think players, when they are not training should give back to the fans, my going to schools, holding training and talks with the communties. and should in the share time be incourage to do they coaching badges or some other qualification. could go on but this is a rumour page, not an opinion page. {Ed003's Note - all opinions are welcome and will be placed on the banter site}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bellamy would be going on loaN with MC paying part of his wages.
I think you are selling him short by saying he will sit on the sidelines. He will play football this season, and I hope it is Sunderland.
It would cripple the Mags.

Burnley's Martin Paterson has suffered a reoccurred injury that has hampered him for the best part of 18 month's and faces another spell on the side lines.
Source: Official site.

Howe was already in the market for a striker and now may even be after two. Burnley have only spent 750,000 of the 3m promised to be used on improving the squad after Eagles and Mears left. Howe will be active this week.

Whats with all the negativity about Chelsea? We have always been a big club, always one of the big four.
We have had amazing players like kerry dixon, pat nevin, frank leboeuf, frank sinclair, jody morris, david speedie, ken monkou, paul elliot the list is endless.
We have the best support and the largest support in britain. The only reason we advertise tickets and season tickets on the radio is not because we are small but to give the masses a chance to watch chelsea in action.
Even without abramovich we would of made it because we are such a big and moral club. All this is selfmade, the russian didnt spend that much.
Liverpool fans and all the other deluded fools be worried cos chelsea are the best.

I think someone is having a laugh at chelsea's expense, what you gotta remember is most chelsea fans don't seem to remember the days before Roman and his cheque book.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pfft deluded Chelsea fan.. how can you say you were always one of the big four? the russian took over in 2003 if im not mistake league results before then:

2002 -2003 - 4th
2001 -2002 - 6th
2000 - 2001 - 6th
1999 - 2000 - 5th
1998 - 1999 - 3rd
1997 - 1998 - 4th
1996 - 1997 - 6th
1995 - 1996 -11th
1994 - 1995 - 11th
1993 - 1994 - 14th
1992 - 1993 - 11th

in the 11 leagues prior to the take over you finished in the top 4 3 times.. learn your facts before you brag. an before you say i am an evertonian and no were we stand.. we once were a big team but we are a just a shodow of our once great team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and as for you having the biggest support... you clearly dont know what you are talking about. have a search for the average attendances over the last few years never mind since the creation of the premier league. im happy to have some banter with people who actually know anything about what they are saying.. you clearly are not one of those people

cheers arsenal for the cash however much it may be. we have plenty of other players who can play as well and better than chamberlain. how good he may be he still has weaknesses and I dont think this will disrupt the team to much. A couple of questions for the wolves fans.

Whats happning with E Banks Blake, has he lost his touch?, Why cant he cement a place a place in your team?....I used to follow him early in his career and in all fairness he was s@t hot, he was playing alongside Rossi for united reserves and in my opinion was the pick of the two of them, he had a nasty break which more or less put an end to his united career but i thought he got over that, he played well enough at plymouth for you to buy him and he was absalutly awsome in the champioship when you got promoted but the seemed to dissapear off thr radar.

David jones was another one, he was captain of that reserve side and was tipped for england, i didn't think you were thzt blessed with central midfielders to be able to give him away for nothing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I Had not finished typing the above so excuse the spelling i hadnt checked it.
I also was wondering who your No1 keeper will be?, as a Swansea fan a little disapointed to see de vries go but hey life goes on, he is a very good keeper 9flaps a little on set pieces) but has he gone to you for the coin or can he oust hennesey?
Lastly what do you think of our chances of staying up (Swansea), I think we have a better squad than what you did when you got promoted (you walked the championship and was by far the best side over the season) you managed to stay up, take out the top eight sides out of the equasion, did you feel a massive difference in the oppositions quality??. come on now try and keep your answers mature.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well 1. sylvan only managed 2 goals in his first season in the pl although he did score 7 last season but in the first season we played a 451 with doyle up front and now with fletcher blake wud only manage the bench. 2. we offerd dave jones a new contract but he rejected it and he never realy played that well after then we got o hara who is much better. 3. henessy will be no 1 at the start. 4. i dow no much bout ur squad but the diff between the champ n prem is vast. the prem can be cruel. also wen we went up we day av the best team just the on form team, also we spent a fair bit of cash. gd luck 4 the season but bear in mind the last 2 seasons the play off winners have gone back down

"08 Aug 2011 12:15:08
Southampton/Arsenal. As widely reported, the deal for Oxlade-Chamberlain is nearly completed. Ongoing and lengthy negotiations aren't far away from being resolved.

Looks like I wasn't far wrong: Arsenal will pay £7 million for the player, with another £5 million in appearance clauses. It is possible although unconfirmed, that the £7 million will be paid over 5 months, with £1.2 million being paid every month until Dec 11.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been unhappy for some time and is keen to move but Wenger's reluctance to commit to such a large deal has been a stumbling block.

The details above are reported in the Times and in the Daily Telegraph. Saints wanted a 40% pay-on clause inserted but this was rejected by Arsenal. Arsenal instead offered to increase the initial bid from £6 million to £7 million, with a 10% pay-on clause."

Believable3 Unbelievable1

How is he grabbing the cash? he is a young player who wants to better himself and play for a bigger club. No I am not an arsenal fan but they are one of the biggest clubs in the world so why wouldnt he want to sign for them. It is a fact of life for us who support smaller clubs that we will lose our best players to bigger clubs but nine times out of ten we do exactly the same and sign players as replacements from other smaller clubs its just the way it is. Personally I think it is a good signing for Arsenal and mucg better paying a smaller amount for a younger talented English player than being held to ransom for an overated foriegn or past it player I just hope he lives up to expectations, probably after a season loan somewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea ok so we bring him through academy and managers are aloud to pinch them of us football needs a revolution in transfers don't get me wrong we will still win championship but how can arse moan about people pinching his players when he's done it to us twice coyrs

Agree0 Disagree0

'there will be a chance of winning the league'

Almost every team in the Championship has some chance of winning the League, it's always tight. Someone may well run away with it. I can't look much further than West Ham. If you got into the Play Offs it would be a helluva achievement, but try to walk before you can run. Just because you got used to winning ways last season and this weekend, doesn't mean you are shoe ins for a top half finish, let alone promotion. Lower your expectations, newly promoted Southampton.

Agree0 Disagree0

We dont need to Lower them we have quality in the squad and in the next couple of days well have some more yea ya know so what we only beat Leeds 3 1 ahold have been more we stick together as One a team not indeviduals we will Mark my words will compete for promo with or without money boy coyrs

At the end of the season the table will be something like this;
1. Man U (quality - experience - strenght in depth)
2. Chelsea (too much quality)
3. Man City (too much quality and starting to gel)
4. Liverpool (right development - high spirits and Carrol will come good this season)
5. Arsenal (losing key players - not enough quality in but Gervinho will shine)
6. Tottenham (not strong enough)

The bench will probably be:
Drogba
Lukaku
Luiz
Ramires
Mceachran
Benayoun
Hilario/Turnball
(When essien gets back from injury he'll probably replace mikel in the first team squad)

Think Drogba will get the nod over Torres, also still a chance Alex will be leaving.
Rumours also that Luiz could be used as a defensive midfielder

He will offer them 'Pay as you Play' deals until the end of the season and bonuses based on clean sheets
