Would love to see Hughton battle hard for curtis davies! we need to establish a decent defence as we leaked a few too many goals last season. In Ruddy we have one of the top keepers in the premier league. Chris burke would be a decent signing for us so it gives Benno a rest on the right wing. May need a big named striker/centre back.

How hilarious are the l**ds fans on here, 1 week ago on this site they were saying clayton was gna stay now because of the take over he's gna get improved contract.............. Then it changed to he wouldn't leave to go to huddersfield he's premier lge bound and too good for you!
NOW it's "take him he's average we didn't want him" and "why do you think he was on the transfer list"?

I'll tell you why, L**ds wanted him to stay (hence the contract offer) but he didn't want to know!
well he has signed for town and you did want him to stay and he is PL bound................ with the mighty terriers!!

Im not saying bristol city won't sell him but if they do it will be to a prem side. Also richard keogh has been in talks with cardiff and bristol but has chosen bristol city as he enjoyed his time with us last time. Its not just about the money for keogh.

A very worried Charlton Fan here. Why
we not BROUGHT anyone yet? Sign up
the players we already have are not
going to keep us in the Championship
let alone mid table safe.

You have the likes of Danny Shittu and
Dan Gabbidon on free's who would make
us better.

Centre back who just left Colchester too.

We need 4 min top players.

A Central Mid i.e Boywer back or Sean Davis

And someone who can score 20+ goals a
season to go up front with Kermit.

Because unless BWP has worked on his
one on ones i can't see him scoring us
the goals.

What do other Charlton Fans think?

This is coming from a Leeds fan. Clayton is an unbelievably good signing for you, he's young, got good feet and a great touch, his passing range is unreal and will also get you a few important goals. Gutted to have lost him as he has a big future at club and maybe international level. I really can see Huddersfield getting playoffs with the youthful quality players they have and are signing. To lose Clayton for at most 1 mil is pathetic, easily worth 3 mil. Hope he does well for you.

JackTheWhite

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Agree with above comments although he lacks a bit of stamina & half a yard of pace. A good buy for Huddersfield at the right price.

Realistic summary of where Southampton's transfer business stands:

Completed: Jay Rodriguez

Rodriguez has been signed as a dual purpose striker/cum winger, so don't be surprised if the club don't sign a dedicated winger during this window

Ongoing talks:
- Alexander Buttner (DL,ML) around 3m
- Steven Davis (MC) free transfer

The Buttner deal is being obsessively haggled over, but seems more likely than Davis, who has got a full table of offers to sort through now he's out of contract

Other deals:
As things stand the Butland deal seems dead in the water. Too inexperienced for such a high fee. He may be returned to though, if other goalkeeping options don't come through

The club have been linked with a few different CB's from France over the last year - don't be surprised if one of those links is resurrected.

What the club almost certainly won't buy:
Any established premier league player used to high wages, such as Rodallega, Owen, etc. No more stikers either.

Outs:
Would expect that Harding, Dickson, Barnard and Puncheon are all available. Would also expect the club to haggle all of their moves to collapse, as happened with Puncheon before and has already happened with Dickson and Harding so far this summer.

Don't think Reading and Huddersfield fans are going to be talking to one another for quite a while after this Jordan Rhodes fiasco.
It is not that Reading cannot afford him. Quite the opposite. It is just that they do not think he is worth the £8 million that Huddersfield want for him. There is a structure at Reading that means no one individual or player is bigger than the club itself, and okay I can understand your point of view and you do not have to sell, but whether it is with Reading or not, you have now denied one of your players the opportunity to experience Premier League football.
Getting out of the Championship is going to be a lot harder than Huddersfield Town think. It is probably one of the hardest Divisions to get out of, and the fact the HTFC have only gone up by the play offs should prove that there is a lot of improvement to do all round to consolidate and improve. And I know you Huddersfield fans are wanting to keep Jordan Rhodes because you think he will get goals for you in that Division but it is not going to be as easy as you all think.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Denied him the opportunity to experience the Premier League? Denied him nothing, if he really wants to go he will go, and with most Town fans blessing.
It's Reading fans coming on here as though they believe they can buy any player and any player would want to play for them.
It really was a case of pay up or shut up. All these so called done deals, and now all you Reading fans are saying he's not a player you really wanted, not good enough. You were not saying that two weeks ago.
The same sentiments for you going to the Premier League, a hard division to stay in. Not seen anything to suggest you are going to be in anything other than a relegation battle.
Town Supporter

Agree2 Disagree0

Hold ya horses fella, town fans only want to keep jordan for 1 very simple reason, he's a bloody good player, whether he scores or not, he also works hard for the team. U say we've denied him the opportunity to play in the premier league, but ask yorslef this, why has he not insisted on being allowed to leave, loads of other players seem to do it.? cud it be that he wants to prove all the doubters wrong & not sit on the bench just because he mite miss 1 gud chance on goal. Also we know how tough next season will be, but i wud suggest u shud worry about reading staying in the prem more than wat hudds do, good luck to u, yor guna need it. AG

Agree1 Disagree1

Completely understand where your coming from and i completely expect us to go down in 20th next season. our squad punch way above their weight last season and even with the investment coming in we will struggle. what i will say is never write off a brian mcdermott team (learnt this from experience) the mans a genius. bear with me here but hypothetically if rhodes only score say 10 goals next season and huddersfield are sitting toward the lower end of the table. are premier league clubs still going to want to splash the cash on him? he will probably end up moving to a higher end championship club and may have scuppered his chances of playing for a stable premier league club like fulham or wigan say

Agree2 Disagree1

Rides is a level headed young chap his old man is an ex pro who knows the dance he will be better off long term playing for town for a season establishing himself ad a player of not only high potential but high worth potential
Case one John stead left town too quick flopped in premier and now kicking around at bristol city
Case two pilkington wanted to leave in Jan hole told him to wait till summer ended up in premier and now an established pre player
Moral of the story fools rush in and the best things comes to those who wait
And in all honesty i just don't think he wanted to play for your tin pot club

Agree0 Disagree0

I was talking to dean Hoyle in December last year at Sheffield wed. He said that if town didn't go up then Jordan would obviously go, with the clubs blessing. Town would want at least 5 mill though. He said that even if we did go up and a top club came for him and Jordan wanted to go then again he wouldn't stand in his way. Town are ambitious. If we sold the lad then how much would it cost to replace him. ? Plus, who would we attract realistically. Reading are discovering that just cos you have cash doesn't mean you a just sign anyone.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Plymouth squad numbers are out. No number 10 at present, so realisticaly only one more signing is likely (other than loan signings). Argyle have already stated that they wont break their wage structure after last years problems and David Brent intends to get Argyle back to the championship as a well run self funding club, which the only way to go for us. Dont expect any outlandish signings! Meanwhile Argyle have been given the green light for Academy level 3 with their youth development set up, this requires four full time coaches dedicated to youth development and costs over £300,000 a year, £210,000 of which comes from the PL. A number of lower league clubs have scrapped their youth development because of this because of the fact that they have to find over £100,000 and perhaps more because the PL teams can take any 16 year old from the Academy system, anywhere in the country for a fixed fee tat I believe is around the £75,000 mark. Very good business for them! Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Eds, what do you make of it, good for us lowley teams or bad/ Bryher Pilgrim. {Ed001's Note - terrible mistake, it will cost the England team, as well as the smaller clubs, in the future. The FA are a bunch of senile imbeciles with no idea how to run football! Get rid of them all, put Dario Gradi in charge, and watch him sort out the youth academy system! What has happened now is going to lead to the slow death of football in England, there isn't a hope for the future without youth systems at as many clubs as possible.}
