Barnet could be about to lose Former England U19 and Portsmouth keeper Liam O'Brien. Several clubs including Peterborough, Stevenage, Coventry, and Portsmouth have made firm enquiries. O'Brien will play a behind closed doors friendly against Dagenham on tuesday, where several interested parties will be in attendance. The 20 year old stopper was a hot property 2 years ago before being released by Pompey who were unable to pay up the terms of his transfer from QPR where he was an academy player.

As a Southampton fan id LOVE to see us sign Matt Jarvis but face it his wages would be two high! Altough Ive heard we are going in for Gladbach Wonder Goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegan

Believable0 Unbelievable2

...but we don't need a new 'keeper?
Also considering our promotion, I imagine the wage bill is going to be upped a fair bit....we have no financial problems after all.

Before the silly season starts on Championship transfer rumours start...please bear in mind that FFP comes into force next season. Meaning restrictions on expenditure and debt. As a result your teams will not be signing players from Prem clubs on £20-30k per week.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I agree, 2 of the 3 clubs who didnt want this to come in was west ham and leicester who are filthy rich compared to other championship clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its as Funny as f... - Big Ken's being dying for that to happen because now players can't go elsewhere to get better wages and with Leeds only spending 20% of their turnover on wages and making a £3.5 Million profit last tax year (no debt aswell). We can use the rules to our advantage

I thnk you saints fans are in for a shock u are not big enough to take surman from norwich. He left u behind years ago. I think u will be ok. Dont get to big for your boots, only couple years ago your club took easy way out left plenty of local companys out of pocket. Some players your fans talking about u would think u were real madrid not southampton. I do wish u well.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

As if your big jesus give it a rest only a few years ago you was the same so your doing what your telling others not to , like getting to big for your boots and thinking your better then what you are

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all, Surman left because of the finacial situation we was in, he never wanted to leave he was made to leave by Rupert Lowe,
Second, the late Markus Liebherr paid the club?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s existing creditors off in full (do your research)
Third, this is a banter site and some of the players posted on here that we are linked with are probable posted by rival fans for gullible fans like yourself to react to.
The realistic Saints fan know the sort of player we will/can attract, i would imagine we will try and do similar to Norwich and try and tempt some of the better Championship Players ie..Peter whittingham (if Cardiff not promoted themselves) Matty Phillips (if Blackpool not promoted themselves) Jay Rodriguez etc.. Maybe Players from teams relagated from Prem like Jarvis, Fletcher (Wolves) but would imagine other established Prem teams would pick these up.
IMO i reackon we will look abroad, we will wait and see.
Lastly we aint getting to bid for our boots, nor do we think we are Real Madrid, we are obviously very happy at the moment as we was not giving a chance by no one this season, so we do feel a little smug at the moment. However we are all very well aware how difflcult it is going to be next season and trying to remain in the Prem is our only focus. What will be will be but one thing for sure we will enjoy every damm minute of it for how ever long it last. COYR

Agree0 Disagree0

Typical Norwich 1good year every 20 and they all come out

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish that SOME fans of ALL clubs would stop posting their silly lists, including Norwich. Would be disappointed if we took Surman back cos don't think he's good enough and no better than we already have. You obviously know nothing about our administration and our owners recently converted their £33M loan to share equity. I wish you well in your 2nd season in the prem.

I think the best, first most important signing this summer should be Alan Carr's dad.
He's chief scout at Newcastle United.

Who are these buffoons at the FA. Roy Hodgson is a good manager but Harry was the man. He has proven man management credentials and should have been the only choice for England.
Given the money in the game in this country the FA shouldn't be looking to appoint someone because they are cheaper.
Choosing the cheap option may well cost them more in the long run !!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Whats harry ever done/ won nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redknapp has done nothing to even remotely suggest he would be successful with England.

Look at the last "peoples choice"-Keegan. What a disaster that was.

At least Hodgson has not been as short sighted as numerous English managers and players and has coached abroad at club and international level. Most of our lot can barely speak their own language, let alone have the nous or ambition to test themselves in another country.

Thankfully the FA have seen through the
Redknapp hype. As for Hodgson at Liverpool, well "messiah" Harry had an equally dodgy spell at Southampton. In anycase, Liverpool only have eyes for Dalglish-and are welcome to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He won the fa cup but look where Pompey are now, also look at what happened to saints

Agree0 Disagree0

In Hodgson's defence I think he was sh***ted at Liverpool by KD who wanted the job but haven't been offered it. Look at the greatr job he's doing now !!! lol

We all know that both managers are good and that they have had their dodgy spells but, personally, I think Harry is the more attack minded and he gets his teams playing good passing football but not at the expensive of a poor defensive record. The issues at Portsmouth were more to do with finances that anything else, a worry that doesn't exist in the national job and motivated Portsmouth to win the FA Cup could signal success for England in a knock out competition if he could repeat it

Agree0 Disagree0

Redknapp has spent a fortune at all his clubs (inc. Bournemouth) and still can't get them to do anything spectacular. With the England job you can't go sign new players when its not working, which is why you need a manager who can work without the aid of money and transfers and Redknapp is definitely NOT that man.

Agree0 Disagree0

West Bromwich Albion will contact managers on their shortlist. Managers include Alan Curbishley, Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane with the strongest link being Gary Megson. Megson has been quoted saying that he'll never turn the albion job down. He is currently under contract at Aston Villa as a scout but with Alex Mcleish destined to move elsewhere, Megson will be an easy target for the baggies.

As an avid albion fan and season ticket holder for the past 12 years, I would firstly like to thank Roy Hodgson for turning our club from a relegation threatened team to a premier league quality team. He hasn't taken the england job yet but I think you'd be foolish to think hes going to stay at the baggies. Moving on, I think we have to be very careful in choosing our next manager. I've seen alot of rumors going around about the possibility of Megson taking the role again. I would not be disappointed with this appointment at all. Failing that, I think Terry Connor would do the job well. Fair enough he hasn't done well at the wolves but I think with a good crop of players he'd do a great job. Plus we were the first team to take black players on and why not be the first to take a successful black manager into the premier league.

UP THE BAGGIES! Boing Boing

It was always between Roy and Harry for the job. I think on this occasion the FA have thought about the cost of compo to the respective teams. It would have cost twice, maybe three times what they have paid WBA to get Harry away from Spurs.

Also, in my opinion Roy has more experience as he has managed across Europe and is well respected. OK the Liverpool job did not work out, but it never was when their fans did not get behind him and pined for Kenny who has done so well for them?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

It will be difficult to judge Roy on the next tournament, which is why the FA has probably installed a manager now. If they balls up, then they can point out they only had a few weeks to prepare, but if they do well then the FA will say the right man got the job.

Harry will get his time, the average England manager only lasts 3 years?¢‚Ǩ¬¶.

Also, Roy needs to think about his team and I hope he has the minerals to drop some of the older players who have been poor this season and look to bring in some of the players who have played well this season, ie Grant Holt and Leon Brittain etc, who have been outstanding for their respective teams this season. OK maybe not take them to the Euros but give them a shout in a friendly. Also, maybe blag Scholes to come back into the England fold?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Roy wont cost the FA anything, his contract runs out this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Point and case then, free or pay millions? The FA is a business, makes business sence.

Listen football fans around England. I know we've been disappointed by England's performances in major competitions lately, and I know some do not even care anymore. I'm different. I think England can learn from their failures and lack of luck and really get something done at Poland/Ukraine this year.

Alot of websites are saying that Roy Hodson is close to being England manager. Please, NO. I really like the idea that the FA is going with an English/British manager but Roy is the wrong person. Look at his past 3 clubs (Fulham, Liverpool, WBA) all his transfers and roster are all old! I think what England needs this year is a bit of freshness, young talent looking to impress instead of "Experianced" players who doing well at such a tournament doesn't mean too much.

What are your thoughts of Roy Hodson? {Ed025's Note - same old boring fart that they usually appoint!...we need to give a younger guy a chance

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Wait, at Fulham he did a good job henc ehim getting the Liverpool job and a WBA he has done a good job... their fans do not want him to leave.

Liverpool, he never really had a chance as Kenny was in the wings.

Also, his transfers were not all bad and seemed to get the best out of the players he bought... fulham and WBA, again Liverpool team was poor therefore overal players were poor.

Maybe Harry would have been my first choice, but I cant moan at Roy. Also it will cost an arm and a leg to Arry from Spurs.

It could be worse we could have Steve McClarren or Hoddle...

Toonal {Ed025's Note - would not be my pick al..

Agree0 Disagree0

Roy seems to have a knack of turning under performing players with WBA and Fulham. Also at this level he has decent success, taking Switzerland to number 3 in the world rankings. To the original poster, at west brom he blended experience with youth, signing players like Shane Long. He will do a decent job whether better than Harry we may never know, but you have to give the guy a chance and get behind him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed, Harry would have been my first choice, but if everyone wants English, you cant moan if the FA goes English.

Why when they knocked back 6m from southampton
But he can't go to Blackburn, all the saints fans have been convinced that he's signing for them for weeks now!....aaahhhhh, they'll be so disappointed! :-)
Oh no we won't!
Blackburn have showed NO interest in Hooper . #fact ... JW
Over rated
Not as dissappointed as you mugs when he does leave la la land for the promised land of England
Why would he lower his ambitions by signing for relegations certs
Billy sharp better than hooper and better value Celtic can stuff hooper let him rot in glasgow
Blackburn are not going to sign anyone for £5M, the players they have brought in one loan player , one on trial to be decided, and a free transfer player who is out of contract, no fee.
Kind of tells you their policy.
Top-quality player
Aye leave him to rot up here winning trophies and playing champions league football next year. Our league might not be the greatest but it's better to play for a massive club like Celtic than play for non-entities like Blackburn. You are nothing but cannon fodder for Man U, Man City etc. Being in a big league doesn't make you a big club you clown.

-honestly mate you are 100% right! We've played and beaten teams in the champions league like Barcelona, ac milan! Most teams in the Prem can only dream of that. Tbh Celtic are one of the greatest teams on earth up there with the likes of barca, Man u, real madrid in terms of support and history. Celtic EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS 1967- LISBON LIONS!! Hail hail.

Ha Celtic are up there with the likes of Man utd, Real madrid and Barca get a grip. Id say Celtic are up there with the likes of Tamworth Blyth and York. You qualify in the tin pot league every year, your bound to beat them some time its just like a league 2 side beating a prem side in the FA cup it happens. With Rangers gone there will just be you lot left then what? what sponsor in their right mind would stick around in a league where Celtic are going to double the points of the second placed team.
