I am on a roll now. I have also noticed that your highest ever position in league in modern times is tenth, millwall that is Ipswich were barely out of top four for a decade, should have won the league in 81 too, lost out to villa due to small squad, even though we beat them home and away in league miles clear till injuries hit us at end of season. Villa won european cup next year when ipswich were second in league to liverpool, 1982. We also got to semis of fa cup in 81, lost to freak free kick, and won uefa cup cup that year. We were playin likes of st ettienne with platini, tigana and half of french squad there who got to world cup finals in 82, and had never lost at home in europe untill ipswich smashed them, and barcelona etc etc. We were in europe every year for at least a decade. And bobby then went off and took us to semis of world cup. After sir alf, also ipswich of course, won us a world cup. Millwall? Or ipswich? Ha ha.

Think everybody has got it mate, please go and do one now.

leicester fan here been musing over rangers fans wondering why players are ie neil danns are chosing championship clubs before their beloved team. have they stopped to consider that all but the top 2 would struggle to get out of our 4th tier and the top 2 would be mid table championship teams at best
the scottish euro disney league is just that.

Re Rangers - It is very difficult at this time for Rangers fans to really be certain as to what is really happening at the club and with the new owner.

Lest we forget this is a self made business man (who often buys struggling companies and turns them around) who is clearly "canny" with money.

However football is a "business" like no other as it defies logic in many ways i.e. you rarely make money back and often pay over odds for things and it makes no economical sense in most cases.

I personally feel he still thinks he may be buying a bit of land or a house in that he intiallly bids low then see where it goes - classic negotiation tactic but the trouble is football is not like that so he needs to learn quick and I am surprised the likes of McCoist and G Smith have not impressed this on him.

I also feel they have been unprofessional in the market by confirming too many stories that should have just have been denied or left with a "no comment" until business was done.

I feel that McCoists PR past and cheeky chappy side too easily sucks him in to blab too much and he needs to learn - and quick.

We need a solid defender and a creative, intelligent midfielder well before another striker. They are still out there to be had but for goodness sake don't tell me, us or the press who the hell you are going for again.

The next time I read about a Rangers target it better be when they have actually signed on the line.

My goodness how times have changed, we used to keep multi million pound guys on the bench for fun

A closing thought - a bit of top class coaching and management can go a long way and I suggest our backroom team and coaches start to work better with who we haveso coach & teach them well and trust in them a bit.

I am confident we will go all out for a win tomorrow and get it

BREAKING NEWS.............JOEY BARTON IS AVAILABLE ON A FREE TRANSFER

LIVERPOOL ARE GOING TO MAKE A £22m BID TOMMOROW

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I'm suprised at this, according to all Liverpool fans they wouldn't dream of attempting to spend big money and buy the league

Agree0 Disagree0

Bet Chavvi Chelski put a bigger bid in than that They will have to buy him to prevent anyone else having him. Just like they always have.

Agree0 Disagree0

With the money king kenny has spent, if Liverpool don't finish in the top 3 (which they won't) he should get the bullet. Rumours are Jan Molby to step in if this happens

Ipswich offered more money than Leeds, and Andrews apparently didnt think he would make the starting eleven at Elland Road (like Bannan last season), and rightly so, it would be like us re-signing Kilkenny.

Andrews is too lightweight for anything above League 1, and so is useless in the competitive, physical Championship.
The reason you're called the 'tractor-boys' is because you're never able to catch up to the big teams, no matter how much horsepower you have. Take the hint. Go get relegated. With signings like that, you AND Millwall could be on the chute.

Good news Gunners fans Arsene Wenger has cut short his holiday to make sure he gets his signings sorted early in the transfer window. The priority is a couple of good defenders and to sort out Fabregas and Nasri (or their replacements). He's got money to spend too so thank goodness no waiting until the last moment to make signings and no repeats of the mistakes around not getting his defence sorted.
The good thing is this will mean we can go into the Emirates cup with a refreshed stronger team that can then go out strong into the new season.
I know this is fact because Arsene, the Arsenal Board and the press all told me back in May.

man utd news

fergy is getting rid of bervy, on a free transfer if no buyers . as owen scored against barca and remember that wonder goal against city

I find it laughable that some red necked Chelsea fans can say anything about Liverpool, having thrown the league away last year and spending £50m on a spaniard flop - people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones Five European cups and 18 league titles is all I need to say. Dream on abramovich of the rovers

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Yes seems chelsea fans reckon there in big spuds league, when there past is shocking compared to heavy weights etc lpool , manu barcelona and real (to name a few) chelsea currently are in over-aged, and prob wont win the prem again for a long while. so chelsea fans get real, it will take least another 80yrs to even match the standard of lfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha ha all you go on about is the past , at least we were there at the end of the season and nearly won it , how close were you.correct me if im wrong but have you won the prem lol lol lol

Agree0 Disagree0

At least liverpool fans can save money by cancelling their Sky subscriptions....................Thursday night, Channel 5 European Football is where its at apparently

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool fc channel you will find it in the sky documentries menu, the channel is all about the 70's and 80's and it's in black and white most of it on beta max recording's

Must be like watching Life On Mars, all mullets and sideburns

Agree0 Disagree0

I support chelsea and i hate liverpool and their deluded fans, support your local team liverfool fans, most of you have never been to anfield

Agree0 Disagree0

Can anyone tell me why when you come out of Anfield after a match 70% of Liverpool fans catch buses back to Wales, Am i right in thinking most of the locals support Everton ??

Agree0 Disagree0

So your saying around 30,000+ Liverpool fans get on buses to go back to Wales thats at least 3,000 buses Where do they all park up mate? Its a 50/50 split in the city. Worldwide, Liverpool have more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well maybe not 3000 but there was about 1074 coaches heading back to Wales, just couldn't work out why

Agree0 Disagree0

I noticed that too, on the far side of stanley park a queue of coaches as far as the eyes could see all from wales. Like most big clubs in the Prem just full of tourists and jonny come latelys. Unfortunately most of the real fans are priced out of it these days, just because you've got the money to buy a season ticket dosn't make you a real supporter.

Agree0 Disagree0

After i'd been to an away match at anfield i couldn't believe how many 'scousers' we saw on the m25 on our way home

Agree0 Disagree0

Very precise that number for a guess You count them?

Agree0 Disagree0

Most liverpool fans haven't been to a game, chelsea for the prem

Agree0 Disagree0

Most Chelsea fans are actually paid by Abramovich to go to games, interesting fact.

After confirming the signings of Gera and Foster, WBA looking to strengthen the midfield even further by signing Owen Hargreaves. Hodgson has confirmed his interest in him, i guess he will be signed on a 'pay as you play deal'.
The signings of Jones, McAuley, Gera and Foster have not cost us a penny. Over the years we have spent around about 10m but spread it out over a number of players. Is this the season where we may spend a lot of it on one player? Hodgson is still searching for another striker as he has said that he may look to play 4-4-2 this season and only has 3 recognised strikers at the moment - Cox, Odemwingie and Tchoyi (wants to try Tchoyi as striker this season, and Bednar and Miller are likely to be offloaded this season).
In this case, the 'big money' signing for us this season could be Shane Long from Reading. West Ham had a 7 million big rejected so could be available for around 8 million, maybe even 10 million.
As Myhill went the other way in the Foster deal from Birmingham, another goalkeeper is needed for back up and to challenge Foster. Expect things to liven up now for us as the season draws closer.

Billy Mehmet is to be offered a contract at Notts County after a successful trial at the club.
The former West Ham United striker had a fantastic time at Dunfermline Athletic scoring 39 goals and then most recently he was at Samsunspor where he scored 2 goals for the Turkish club in only 9 appearances.
He played in County's last pre-season friendly against Maidenhead. He was given the number 18 shirt for the match. He created alot of chances and hit the bar which would of completed a fantastic bit of play from Notts.
The 6ft 2' front man will hopefully sign for the club before they kick off for the start of the season against Carlisle on Saturday the 6th of August 2011.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was at St Mirren not Dunfermline. They play in the same colours right enough.Mehmet is better singing for a SPL club.If he ever wants to play for Ireland.Aberdeen could use a new striker.

only found this site recently and love it, its so funny. ed is there any replacements for barton and enrique that you personally think are believable or true??? . i would really like a boost in confidence on the newcastle team that we will be putting up against arsenal. thanks.

{Ed042's Note - Apparently we have been linked with this lad Smokescreen all summer, was raised by wolves and taught football through telepathic means by shaolin monks but hes only willing to move if his mate Chinese whispers is signed too :) .. ah no seriously mate its hard to know, every source is consumed with the Joey saga at the moment.. for LB the most realistic option, although not great to hear is Bridge or Warnock I think, Enrique could go late in the window and they are the emergency go to replacements... As for replacing Joey, Barnettas name has come up a lot the past 24 hours, only because weve been linked for nearly 4 years on and off though, hard to tell if there is real truth to it, will know more come Thursday or Friday}

Jason Puncheon will turn down a number of clubs in oder to join Leeds United. Puncheon is keen on joining Simon Grayson's side and will be available for just under £2 million from Southampton.
-----------------------------------
I doubt it will be up to Puncheon. He'll go to whichever club Southampton accept a bid from. QPR had offered £500k plus Kaspars Gorkss which was rejected, and have come back with £650k plus Gorkss - Rangers are awaiting a reply
Think this deal will fall through though, Saints want over £1m for Punch from QPR, and Jemal (CB from Young Boys) is set to sign this week which would mean there is no need for Gorkss to sign. Leeds would be a good place for the lad but could Grayson keep his attitude under control? That remains to be seen.

Wigan and Newcastle also interested in JP but no bids have been made from either club as of yet.

THIS IS NOT KNOWN RUMOURS. THIS IS JUST WHAT I WOULD DO IF I WAS MANAGER OF THESE TEAMS

Fulham: new manager martin jol has made a great buy of john arne riise which will work with the chemistry of him and hangeland at the back. bobby zamora still looks shaky after his return from injury and johnson and dembele meet the standard of fulham so if fulham can get there hands on a good clinical finisher like gilardino to strnthn there squad.

Liverpool: Liverpool have made 2 20 million pound buys this window one being henderson and the other downing. i dt believe they are worth this much however downing has shown to be lethal in the crossing department and hender son shows a lot of movement which is needed. a new cb is needed as a replacment of cara in a few years which i believe should be shawcross. he shows strnth and brutal force in defence however he gets carried away leaving him suspended for most games he will cost a few million more than dann but i think shawcross in the future would prove better. Therefor the selling of old man kyriakos. i would like to see more players bite the dust and exit anfield those players are: poulsen, ngog, kyriakos. I understand a lb is in need but i have 100% faith in insua to do an amazing job. if u watch him closely hes fantastic + i love aqualani i think his skill and technique is incredible however i understand if he leaves and i wouldent mind too much because that allows mierles to stay

THIS IS NOT KNOWN RUMOURS THERE JUST WHAT I WOULD DO IF I WAS INCHARGE OF THESE TEAMS

Bolton: with the news of jussi juskalinin (however u spell it) leaving bolton for his replacment they should get there hands on robert green if possible or better bjovic who is young and shows a lot of potential also with sturridge not coming back and the selling of johan elmander to galaxtary they should buy galaxtary's star and former anfield striker milan baros who shows to be lethal as ever in pre season

Chelski: With the amazing buy of torres *sarcasim* chelasea's attack is full with anelka, drogba, torres, kalou, malouda and sturridge fighting for starting eleven and with the proposed wish to get roman lakuka chelasea should sell striker drogba as he will go for a lot of money and with each year his price tag would drop Modric is a must as lampard looks to of played his time at chgelski.

Eveton: i personally dt thnk jagielka would leave the club so no need to worry everton fans but i think everton need to get a better rb than coleman. my suggestion is hutton who seems out of place in spurs and would fit into evertons game plan hutton would be a goodbecause he would come cheap as everton struggle finacially. with a good bit of negotiating u can get him for under 4 mil. a striker is needed but as the finacial problem is terrible they might not be lucky enough to get another sriker

arsenal: sell nasri and fabregas. with that money i expect wenger to put it on french internationals or players in the french league. so he would buy toulanan and gourcuff. what i would do is buy parker and hamsik both for cheap and both proven stars

aston villa: mcleish has done amazing in the transfer window buying n'zogbia for a bargin. i think another winger prefferably kranjcar of totenham. underatted but amazing. second choice should be david bently.

blackburn: if i were the owners i would sack the gaffer kean and get any1 available i say even sven gorn erikkson would be good Its likely that samba would go to arsenal and i think with that deal they should get 4m plus a defender of arsenal squalaci or get the deal in cash and speand it on kyriakos whom liverpool would be more than happy to of load also a good addition to the attck would be djirebel cisse or dj campbell

Nottingham Forest - Nigel Doughty has decided that no new money will be allocated to transfers and that there will no be more permanent signings added to the 3 players brought in during the close season.

The news overrules a previous claim from Maclaren that 9 new players were needed.

Doughty ruled out bringing in a left back but suggested a loan signing of a winger might be permissable.

Also, QPR failed in a bid for Forest keeper, Camp

The best reason for any player signing for the Auld Firm.Is looking back on your carer as a winner.Celtic can still offer silly wages to.As much as a lot of EPL clubs.Rangers to but we try to stick to a £25 grand wage limit. If they are good enough to earn it.And few of our players are.

Doesn't seem like Coventry are as deep in financial trouble as many think. The board have just offered James McFadden a contract, although they have asked him to reduce his wages to 10k a week. The sky blues are also after another midfielder to replace a few injured players. Giles Barnes is an option, but they are more likely to loan Jake Livermore.

His career is now heading in the direction he deserves..

Most QPR fans, including myself would love Barton. He's a top player.

Beacause he's only good enough for SPL/Championship. But what he says is true, he could be given a prison sentence, which is why so few clubs are interested, spend millions on a criminal. And Dundee didn't want to sell to Rangers or any SPL club. I don't support Rangers, I'm a saints fan.

How do you know that Goodwillie, is not good enough for the EPL.If he has never played there? The guys the best Scots player we have brought through since James McFadden.I would go as far as to say he is better. He can score the special goals like over head kicks, and 25 yard efforts to the easy tap ins.And is really strong and hard to knock of the ball.He will do well at Blackburn, if he signs.

Anyone else wondering how Newcastle are planning on staying in the Premier League after this season?

In the last 6 months, you have sold you're 3 best players (including Joey Barton's ridiculous free-transfer) with Jose Enrique looking likely to go too. After last season's impressive perfoamnces, Tiote has also been mentioned in relation to other clubs, which leaves not much by way of quality in the current squad.

The last time Newcastle got relegated, I would argue that they weren't one of the 3 weakest teams in the league, in terms of squad strength. I believe their relegation had more to do with the pathetic management at boardroom level and the impact that had on player morale.

As far as I can see, more of the same is in store, Newcastle are worse now in terms of quality than they have been for ages and it's hard to see who is going to want to play for them Not only that, but there is no evidence to suggest that any of the money made from player sales is to be re-invested in the team.

Doom for the toon??

"WHO EVER WROTE THIS NEED TO CHECK THERE HISTORY..MILLWALL HAVE WON MORE THEN IPSWICH..FACT..."

No it isn't. Even if we consider that Ipswich's FA Cup, Division 1 (now prem) and UEFA Cup wins on a par with Millwall's early 1900s Western league wins both teams have 9 trophy wins to their name. Do not state fact without actually proving it, or even checking it.

ILL PROVE IT...MILLWALL League One Play-Off Final Winners 2010 First ever play-off success at sixth attempt.
League One Play-Off Final Runners-up 2009
FA Cup Finalists 2004 Lost 0 3 to Manchester United, qualified for the Uefa Cup as finalists.

Football League Group Cup Champions 1983 A forerunner for the Football League Trophy.
FA Youth Cup Champions 1979, 1991
Division Three Promoted 1976 Finished 3rd, behind Cardiff City and champions Hereford United.
Division Three Runners-up 1966, 1985 Millwall went unbeaten at home for the second successive season in 1966.
Fourth Division Runners-up 1965 Finished 2nd, 1 point behind champions Brighton.
Fourth Division Champions 1962
War Time Cup Finalists 1945 Lost 0 2 in the South Final to Chelsea.
Division Three South Champions 1928, 1938

Suffolk Premier Cup winners 1967 68, 1968 69, 1969 70

Believable1 Unbelievable2

This latest post is now by far the stupidest in this ridiculous debate of 'who is better'. The list for both teams is laughable. Its clear to me that this was posted by a Millwall fan, however by posting this you have made your own club look the lesser of the 2 teams by posting such triumphs that most teams would not even want in their history. Winning the FA Cup is not the same as Fourth Division Runners-up From reading your overwhelming lists of achievements all you have proved is that Millwall have achieved nothing in their clubs history and Ipswich Town have.

Agree0 Disagree0

After reading this drivel, I wonder why it is that everyone just wants to have a go at Liverpool fans over their history

This is total rubbish, I've never even heard of most of these competitions. The only thing you have seemingly failed to mention is the 1901 Park Kick-About Championships. A last minute controversial winner involving a fly-away football and jumpers for goal posts Stuff of legend

If only you had mentioned that, no one would argue Millwall are the bigger club....it completely eclipses the UEFA Cup
