It is no question Hall and Ferdinand won't be hanging around Roots Hall for long. They are progressing at an alarming rate and when the offers are made they will want to go to boost their earning power at a bigger club. As has been said they've done their loyalty bit by signing extended deals but next summer will see them enter their final year so their value will drop. It'll be a big risk committing for longer than they have to in case they go stale which could scupper any big move for them. Take Mark Gower. Who#'d have thought he'd be playing Prem football when he left Blues so he got out at the right time. He left for nothing and I agree with other posts that say Hall and Ferdinand are to good to let go off for nothing.Which means sadly they could be gone sooner rather than l;ater. Not in january as they would want to get promotion delivered first. But next summer will be interesting to see. And for me Hall and Ferdinand have shown more promise than Gower. Making it obvious they'll be hard to hold onto. I'm afraid this is how it is and sometimes the truth hurts. Its footballing realism.

Sky sports match presenter last night said 'Andy Keogh has been on the pitch for Leeds tonight.... and thats about all he's done'

Come on Leeds, where's your talking now the Mighty Blues continue their winning streak by stopping your unbeaten streak.

Blue Army!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes well done, very narrow win with the only goal coming from a player that cost you 8 mill.
But well done anyway.

I would like to ask Southend fans:

Barker, Grant and Bilel have contracts expiring at the end of the season.

They are key players for you so why haven't they been offered extended deals?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would like to know why people are disagreeing with the post on Southend contracts. It's logical and not designed to put down the rose tinted die hard fans. You can't expect the key lad to stick around Roots Hall forever. Hwever much it hurts and I'm a Blues Fan. but you have to be realistic about these things. Keep them and their contracts will wind down so we get nothing for them. Doesn't the Clarke, Barnard and Gower situations ring any bells? Some of out players are too good to get nothing for.

Where has all your support gone? I know it was never massive but to see the ground now with 12,000 to 16,000 in is a disgrace. You blubber on about not buying anyone,HOW CAN YOU? Nothing through turnstiles means nothing in the coffers dimwits. Mobray is wasted there and all the young players , who by the way are decent, will all leave and boro will end up stuck in league 1 or league 2. Nelly Quinn at scumderland is crying in his Guiness becos the Muckems watch it in the pub and not at the stadium of plight and that will happen at boro if the support doesnt pick up. My son was at the boro academy for 4 years and it brought him on loads although he is now playing for a championship rival. So come on boro, get the support back and get the money flowing so mr Gibson can splash out on players needed to lift the club back into premier league.

Gus Poyet has been approached by Leicester City, also another 10 millon will be made available in January for players.

Yeah i can see blackpool still have there prem quality and are destroying the league. sorry i think that was one of maximus's dreams again. at least we have a chairman who want to put money in and not fill his pockets

Agree0 Disagree0

What planet are you on? Your 'chairman' will be off as soon as the season finishes and you're still in the championship, he'll get bored with his little toy. Have you been on the crisps again. MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

And what are Blackpool well known for? your a nothing club with no ambitions. it will be a long long time till you see premiership footy again

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately, i agree with you AND maximus that Blackpool will not be returning to the Premiership soon. They are well known for brightening up last seasons dull and uncompetitive Premiership

Good points raised by the shrimper regarding contracts.

I fear in Hall and Ferdinand especially chances are that they'll re-sign again are remote.

They've already signed extentions anyway so they can say they have done their loyalty bit.

Why would these two committ even longer to the Club when they will be good enough to boost their earning power elsewhere.

Doing ever so well in the bottom league ain't gonna make much difference . Many players and managers at Roots Hall have left when in a good position in the 2nd tier for sides below them as the fan mentioned.

But it would still be nice to see the Club try to extend their deals in any case.

and can't see why Grant and Bilel haven't been offered further deals. Barker also and he's the captain. and these three see their current contracts expire at the end of THIS season.

Hall and Ferdy are the concerns in the main. I fully expect them to turn offers from Blues down when it happens but they are too good to let go off for nothing.

Must be a chance they'll be sold next summer as from then their value will begin to slide because of the year left the pair will have on their terms at that time.

We may be promoted this term but theres not a lot of confidence beyond this period for reasons above. Makes one wonder if the finacial situation has'nt greatly improved after all.

I was invited to the Wolves v Swansea game on Saturday as a guest of the sponsors. There was a lot of whispering and rumours flying around the guests that the name being heavily linked with Wolves managers job was Sven Goran Eriksson. Then all this kicks off yesterday and Sven is out of a job. Coincidence or is Mick McCarthy about to get the sack. After watching his beleagured team toil away for 80 mins on Sat it would not surprise me. But they did play well for the last 10 mins.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Yes thick mick will get the sack soon but not a chance in hell will sven get the job we are allready getting rid of one thicko

I agree with the Shrimpers supporter regarding players contracts.

To me this shows our financial state hasn't vastly improved as its obvious we can't look no more than 18 months ahead.

and quite why Grant, Bilel haven't been offered deals is worrying when as the fan states they are out of contract next may. Actually throw Barker in that category as well and he's our captain.

So what is going on there?

Even if we are promoted this season I realistically cannot see Hall and Ferdinand hanging around too much longer. They are exceptionally good players and in time they will be worth more than what Blues could ever offer them.

They've 18 months left and I agree they are too good to let go of for zilch but with these two especially I fear they will turn down new offers anyway such will be the level of interest from bigger teams elsewhere. So when do you cash in on them? maybe next summer as a last resort as it will be from then their fee value will start to drop.

Finally good point about Fry and the players he took with him. It didn't bother them leaving us at the top of the 2nd tier to go to a team bottom of it.

Thommo went to a team a league below us so just because we're top of League 2 won't mean a thing regarding Players futures.

Makes you wonder if Paul Sturrock will consider his position if the Board can't give him assurances about keeping the current crop of important players in the long run.

I'll be releived when St Johnstone and Plymouth name their new managers and that its not him.

Southend should offer deals to Barker, Mohsni and Grant. they are out of contract at the end of the season.

Deals also should be made for Hall, Ferdinand, Clohessy as next summer there value will drop with only a year left on their deals.

Why these lads haven't been offered renewed terms I don't know. It says to me Blues still won't look beyond the next 18 months. Worrying indeed.

those out of contract next summer might be flogged in january otherwise Blues risk them going for nothing.

Those out of contract in 18 months might be flogged next summer to get the best value for them should no more extensions be signed.

In my opinion Hall and Ferdinand are rapidly impressing and there will be takers for them. in the long run they will be worth more than what Blues can offer them.

So the likeyhood is many if not all these players won't sign new deals if offered. also they've already signed second extentions. in any case they'll prove too good to stay at roots hall.

Will be relieved when Plymouth and St Johnstone appoint their managers and that its not Paul Sturrock.

Still think his future with Blues is far from clear.

Yes we maybe top of League 2 but when it comes to peoples futures that means nothing.#

We were flirting with the prem when Fry , Otto, Poole and Hunt walked out to join relegation threatened Brum.

Thompson left us in the 2nd tier to join Notts County who were a division below.

So I rest my case. Top of League 2? we couldn't keep this lot when we were doing well in the 2nd tier.

You don't know whats around the corner. Things change quickly in football.
