it has been confirmed today in the western daily press and the Bristol evening post that Bristol city striker nicky Maynard will not be leaving for leicester. SVG has given up on signing the city frontman after seeing 3 bids rejected with the last bid being £4.75 million. fingers crossed he now signs a new contract this should kill of any chance of Maynard leaving and hopefully give us a chance (providing he is fit) of getting us somewhere decent in the league next season

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Err who is SVG ?

Agree0 Disagree0

City should have cashed in, £4.75m is far too much for Maynard, they'll never see that kind of money again for him. Watch him slap in a transfer request now, if he does he'll end up being flogged for £3m tops

Another average signing, thats why liverpool wont win the league, would be a different story if they could get players like mata, sneijder, modric, nasri, pastore, neymar, sanchez, tevez but none of these guys would join a team who isnt in the champions league and cant pay the wages, leaves liverpool with only 2nd rate choices e.g adam, henderson, downing .

Agree3 Disagree3

Disagree Liverpool are in a phase of rebuilding and have prioritised, strong, premiership standard players to form the foundations of the squad. The likes of Carroll, Adam, Downing etc have proven quality in the Premiership and will take Liverpool to a higher standard than what was achieved last season.

No one mentioned about winning the League. The prioirty for this season is to get back to the Champions League.

On another point, I don't feel that not being in Europe will be much of a preventative factor in us signing some big names. I think Liverpool as a brand and the potential that we now have, especially in the infrastructure (and increasingly in terms of the squad) is more than enough to tempt all but the most greedy of players.

Liverpool fans have cause for optimism, but we have to be realistic. Annoyingly so far, Utd have made quality additions to the squad and at the moment, it's difficult to see who their challenger is.

Liverpool may well exceed expectations next season, particularly as we can focus solely on the league. Winning it, is a step too far, but Champions League is a reasonable goal.

The next couple of seasons will determine Liverpool's true potential

PACMAN

Agree2 Disagree2

Of the players you mention

mata: Yes I'd have him (and it's a possibility)
sneijder: Looking for a big payday, couldn't do it at Real Madrid so what makes you think he'll do it in the Prem? modric: proved to be just another mercinary who doesn't score or create enough (stats prove this)
nasri: (see Modric)
pastore: Good on Footy manager but what's he done?
neymar: £60m? Don't make me laugh
sanchez: I like this kid, but he's overpriced and unproven (a la Andy Carroll if you like, but our hand was forced on that one with Torres)
tevez: Wouldn't take this gobsh*te on a free transfer if he played for free. He epitomises what is wrong with football in the modern era.

I like to think KK is trying to bring some of the loyalty back to Anfield, playing for the shirt and the fans once again. I'm not gonna be making any wild predictions regarding 'we'll finish here or there' or 'we'll win this or that', but after where we were at Xmas just gone things can and will only improve.

Bring on the new season I say

To the people saying Alan Smith isnt a leeds fan then you are wrong, i see and speak to him sometimes when watching leeds under 18s, he goes and watches whenever he can, havent seen him in around a year but when he was out with injury i saw him and he is clearly is leeds through and through,

LEEDS

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Yeah right. What a load of hero worshipping nonsense. Leeds=Dreamers.

Agree2 Disagree1

Some people are very spiteful on here I believe the first poster even if no one else does as Ive met him and you'd think he'd killed peoples granny or kidnapped their sister the way some go on...heyho best to move on lol

Agree0 Disagree0

But wasn't it Leeds fans who threatened to kill Smith when he left to join Man Utd? Didn't Leeds fans spit on him, boo him and call him a traitor and a judas?

And you think saying he's not a Leeds fan is spiteful?

Hero worshipping is right, you lot are so desperate to land someone the rest of the league has actually heard of that you're virtually begging your over-the-hill hero to come to you. Smith is simply looking to boost the coffers before he retires, you honestly think he'll set the league alight? He's another Hasslebank/Fowler, way past his best and he's making you look desperate.

after dale jennings' transfer to bayern munich i believe he is worth more and better than saints' alex oxlade-chamberlain. disagree with me if you like but after tranmere played saints at prenton park jennings was clearly the better and more talented youngster than oxlade-chamberlain and with jennings winning the league one apprentice of the year proves just how better he is than oxlade-chamberlain. i am tranmere fan too. ed what do you think? {Ed001's Note - not a clue sorry, just remember Jennings from his time at Liverpool and he was talented but nothing special. As neither a supporter of Brighton nor Palace, if I were presented with an opportunity to play for either club it would be Palace all day long At least Palce are a team capable of staying in the Championship. Brighton will be fighting to stay up this season

Okay so what team do you support or are you to embararsed to admit it? As a spurs fan even I can see Brighton have a much brighter future than palace? It's not rocket science? They have a lot more going for them than palarse do. Let us remind are selves who was it fighting against the drop last season? Oh yes that's right crystal palarse. Don't kid your self palarse fans your going to be in a fight for survival again this season and I think your luck has all but run out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have to agree with the Spurs fan - Palace are only going in one direction and its not up. Brighton may be guilty of paying too much for their signings but at least they are recruiting. The new Falmer stadium looks impressive

Agree0 Disagree0

Palace may not be buyin much but at least they have a decent youth academy and brighton are only good for league one which they'll be back in next year

Forest have big problems with players leaving like rats leaving a sinking ship and Stevie Mac is moaning Billy style about lack of signing, plus only free transfers so far has the money dryed up, If Camp goes to Swansea (sky sports) My friend who works for a well known media organisation has told me they will move for Brad Jones from Liverpool and Ross Turnbill from Chelski to fill the gap because he has worked with both of them at Middlesbrough.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Tune in to this is nottingham and read how the fans are trying to organise a protest, apparently they've all got to wear green... i can't help but laugh, they think it's in honour of Brian Clough, do you reckon they've ever heard of a bloke called Robin Hood?

BREAKING NEWS: Brett Ormerod is set to join Bolton Wanderers in the next 48 hours. Ormerod is currently waiting to have his medical, with a fee to be in the region of £600,000. The English forward re-joined Blackpool in 2009, but it didn't quite work out as he wanted, scoring only 15 in 72 appearances. The 34 year old is known for playing up in the North-West, born in Blackburn, Ormerod has played for the likes of Accrinton Stanley, Blackpool, Leeds United, Oldham Athletic and Wigan Athletic. Ormerod hopes to add Bolton Wanderers to that impressive list of big clubs. After the departure of Daniel Ward, Johan Elmander and Daniel Sturridge, Bolton are left with only 3 strikers. Coyle has seen Ormerod as a relatively cheap target to strengthen the squad, and maybe to even chip in to one or two goals to help the Trotters to succeed in the future.

Owen garvin staying at palarse as wants to help them fight to stay in championship. Good luck with that one as palarse are favourites to be regelated according to the bookies. All you palarse fans should get down there quick and win your self some easy money. As for the muppet who said there stadium is bigger than brighton's, your stadium can hold 26, 309. Brighton if they want can increase thier stadium to 35000 plus if and when they want thicko. It's a sham about garvin and something he will regret. Another footballer with a palarse for a brain.

Source: Bristol Evening Post
A Foxes spokesperson told the Bristol Evening Post: "We felt we made a very favourable offer for Nicky Maynard and were surprised when it was turned down"

"Bristol City have made their position clear and it is time to move on and look elsewhere."

NOW THEN...are all those Leicester fans who have posted on here for the past 5 weeks that Nicky will DEFO be signing on x date for y amount now gonna stand up and say either "I was wrong" or "I made it up"?
Actually I can answer that...no, they will all come on here now and say "carp player, we don't want him anyway..."
Lessons from this story? (a) If you post on here often enough and type FACT after it, it doesn't make it REAL (b) Money doesn't buy you class - just ask Man City ;-)
See you soon crisp munchers, am gonna love your 'nearly but not quite' promotion season

Believable0 Unbelievable1

What about your teams non-event of a life time? Grow up pal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoever said he would be signing on a particular date was quite obviously lying (i haven't seen anyone saying that though) what most people have said is that he WILL sign for Leicester and that Bristol won't be able to hold on to him if he wants to go. Remember, even though BC hold his contract, if he wants to leave, he leaves and it's that simple.

The fact that Leicester have publically ended thier interest means about as much as Maynard not signing the contract that was offered to him a month ago. Until he signs there is still a chance that he'll jump ship and no amount of "oh no he won't" will change that, unless you are Maynard or his agent, you simply don't know that to be true.

Perhaps this ending of interest is a double bluff, maybe Leicester want to force the player to make a decision, end their interest and maybe he'll submit a transfer request, who knows, i don't and i doubt you do, if you're being 100% honest at least.

As i said earlier, we (the fans) wanted him and we still do. A player doesn't turn bad just because he won't sign for you. Sadly we (the fans) aren't in control of the purse strings and neither are you at BC. The men in the know don't ask permission to sign players, they simply register an interest and the fans pick up on that.

So, i maintain that there is still a chance of Maynard coming to Leicester and there's nothing you can do about it until he actually commits to BC. Maybe he's been under advice and maybe he's kept shtum to see if he can generate Premier League interest. Now that the biggest spending club in the Championship is pulling back his agent might tempt him into a transfer request, let's wait and see?

You are right on one thing though, writing FACT after adding some twaddle doesn't make it reality, you should tell some of your BC mates that too btw. Money may not buy you class, but it does buy you ability and when the season has run it's course we'll see who finishes where, until then it's just speculation.

Thanks for playing.

can someone explain no signings this or last transfer window, window before that 8 million spent on vdv. quarter final champions league, yes we have some numpties in our squad that need to be got rid of already we must have saved a few bob on oharas and woodgates wages. what is happening at the lane. top four, what is levy thinking, another season of underachieving. seats prices up, 3 big names where? when? we the fans are the only ones loyal, one big business, with the fans the ones who suffer

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Go and have an early night, its clearly too much for you. Muppet.

Agree1 Disagree0

You bought steven pienaar in january remember?

Agree0 Disagree0

I appreciate the frustration of this Spurs fan, but we have to be realistic.

Firstly, although the club is in reasonable financial shape, we still have a lot of marginal players inflating the wage bill. Levy cannot allow any big new signings until this problem has been addressed. However, these players are proving hard to shift.

Secondly, the nearer you get to the top the harder it becomes to take the next step. There are not too many players available that would significantly improve the squad. If we cannot sign one of them then it is better to sign nobody at all. There is no point just changing one good squad player for another good squad player. We have done that too often in recent years.

Be patient

Looks like the Sneijder deal is going ahead at some point during this window, which is great for the club. But does anyone else out there think a defensive midfielder is also required? Anderson has disappointed, Carrick is just useless and Fletch seems to still be struggling with fitness due to the virus he suffered.
I think someone like Schweinsteiger or Tiote would fill that role perfectly. It's not an attractive way to play football but in big games particularly away from home in Europe you need to play that 5 man midfield just to break the game up.

Shortly after to follow Sordell into the "Dads Army" will be the suprise winger which is reported to be Jobi McAnuff who this season will be highly remembered for his brilliant goal in the play-off semi final against cardiff. McAnuff seems to be set to leave the royals as Brian Mcdermot is trying to sign preston winger Keith Treacey who was another town target.

Ipswich-FORMER Ipswich Town hero Kieron Dyer is today expected to sign a one-year deal at Premier League new boys QPR.

Your view Email Print Got a story?
And he will join the newcomers with words of support from Rangers boss Neil Warnock who has defended the club's gamble on the injury-plagued midfielder.

Of the free agent, the QPR manager told the Evening Standard: "As far as I'm concerned it's a gamble worth taking. He really impressed me in training and it looks like he has been working hard on his fitness throughout the summer.

"He has a lot of experience and is desperate to play in the Premier League again. I like the hunger he's got and he wants to prove a point."

Former boy wonder Dyer, who returned to Ipswich for an underwhelming one-month loan deal last season, was thought to be considering whether to take a step down and sign for a Championship club.

Middlesbrough and Town, naturally given Dyer's history with the club, were linked over the summer.

If Dyer signs for QPR, as expected having reportedly agreed personal terms, he will become the club's second pre-season signing after fellow free transfer Jay Bothroyd's switch to Loftus Road was confirmed this morning.

Ryan Bertrand in, maybe loan but fee is that high could go for a permanent move (loan is approx 500,000 permanent fee is approx 2.5 m)

Jason Scotland in, he will be Grahams back up, different sort of player

Stockdale from fulham, we will increase bid to approx 2.5 m + add ons

if the stockdale bid fails (he is our no1 choice), we will be battling with west brom for green and Hargreeves.
Hargreeves will be the BIG signing with the Top flight experience from his times at Bayern Munich & Man Utd as the Senna deal is dead

There will be another left back to compensate for the Taylor move to Newcastle but no names yet

Routledge is not happening, plenty of rumours of Wittingham from Cardiff but that is wide of the mark as well...Michael Owen been mentioned a lot as well but I have heard nothing official, cant see united letting him go as he just signed anew deal and looked quite sharp tail end of last season, maybe short term loan

k millen needs to stop wasting his time trying to bring in free transfers, average players from lower leagues and season long loan deals.bristol city are a "sleeping giant" with a huge catchment area, but at present the dreams are likely to continue for many years to come, unless lansdown invests heavy. 999 HELP

Steve McClaren has confirmed on the Nottingham Forest OS that he will sign three players, thought to be Jonathan Greening, Bolo Zenden and Marvin Sordell.

Inside knowledge tells me that last Friday, we scuppered a bid to sign Wayne Routledge as we couldn't agree terms with him, since then, ten clubs are interested and I believe he's gone to Leicester.

It's often frustrating but I hope things materialise. Any Forest news ED?

SOUTHAMPTON F.C NEWS my friend Steven Hall is a accountant for some SAINTS players , he has a new customer , a young italian defender who is going to raise some eye-brows , NO NAME YET BUT SHOULD BE ON SAINTS WEBSITE WITHIN 24HRS

Given that Saints will be in Switzerland all week this seems highly unlikely, I severly doubt Nigel will be bringing players into a squad who aren't even at the training ground

You say that but we signed people when we were in Switzerlan last year. But yh don't think there's any substance to this rumour

I very much enjoy looking through your website at the various football rumours that are doing the rounds but it is impossible not to notice how totally blinkered and biased many fans are about ' their team ' and especially how vitriolic many comments are about their nearest neighbours. In many ways this obsession with supporting regardlessly everything their team does must get in the way of their overall appreciation and knowledge of football in general. A recent instance of this was a couple of weeks ago just at the time when all the talk had been about Samir Nasri moving to Manchester United when suddenly word appeared to come through that he would be signing for City. I find it absolutely amazing to listen to the responses of the City fans when a reporter outside Eastlands put this to them. So many of them were just caught between two stools because obviously if he was going to United he would be sh** whereas if he was coming to City he would I be great. I don't pick on City in particular -- this is just an example of the blind support that I refer to. Usually expressing an honest opinion is better than towing the party line.

What a total joke this message is, as a manc i have heard plenty of utter garbage coming from united fans over the years, so just using city fans as an example regards nasri maybe or maybe not coming to city ? fact 4 u mr man u u aint liking little old city invading ur glory as like united as a whole u want all the pie 2 yourself , nice 2 see nowt change mr man u lol

I made this original posting. I am not a manchester united fan. I support the Seasiders. Can't help but think previous reply underlines my point though. jd.

Rangers are to sign spanish stopper raul rodriguez for 2.7 millon..... soon
I hope not considering he's valued at £500, 00....it would be daylihgt robbery for someone thats played 10 games for the first team last season......and dont even get me started on the Kenny Miller situation. Since Whyte has taken over at Rangers theres been nothing but blank promises, I'll be blunt if they dont get sufficient cover in for "problem" areas e.g. Defenders, strikers and a couple of midfielders we may aswell hand the league to celtic now.....

Why would parker go to stoke just to see the ball keep flying over his head? hes a top 6 player, stoke is hardly a step up
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Top 6 player, but now in the championship, hmmmm?

He will probably go to Spurs or Chelski IMO , where he will warm the bench every Saturday, still... he'll still get his £90k a week wages. As for the ball flying his head? Just because we play with 2 attacking wingers, isn't the aim of the game to score goals? Pity no one at West Ham knew that, maybe then they wouldn't have been relegated

Jason Puncheon. We never had any problem at Blackpool with him when he was on loan. Obviously if he has behavioural problems with you this must mean a steep reduction in the fee you would otherwise be able to ask for him. Also it makes me wonder why so many clubs are chasing him. Puncheon is a good player at a reasonable level, it is unfortunate that he has ended up with a club that can't handle him properly.

So would it be fair to say he has been puncheon above his weight?? LOL
