Southampton are all set to sign tadanari Lee after a work Permit appeal was accepted

"Although Lee did not meet the initial criteria to gain a work permit, his case has been approved by the football authorities, who agreed that the international star is an exceptional talent that will enhance the game in this country"

Lee will now fly to England and complete his move to the Saints

Already in england training with southampton. bull plop bit of hype.

Mate look on the sfc official website. It says he is flying back from Japan tonight to conclude the deal.

To all celtic and rangers fans talking about english championship clubs saying that we have won nothing and dont play in the champions league just remember that most of us have played in the best league in the world and are not in it no more because its competative un like your rubbish league thats the only reason you both get in the champ league and most of the time u get dumped straight out anyway . In the english leagues your a championship club at best . english fans let me know if u agree coyr

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Why do people post such tripe, celtic and rangers would walk the championship with the same financial backing, please tell me how they wouldnt?

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers were in the last four,in the champions league in 92.After Rangers man Cambell Ogilvie came up with the new format that year.With out Rangers FC,the champions league would never have been what it was.If anybody wants to doubt me.The should watch THE FOOTBALL YEARS 1992,on YouTube.Actually more SPL teams have played in league 1,than championship teams.So that is not even a argument.I suggest that you want to research what your saying in future.Also the best league in the world is Spain.Judged on what they have won in Europe,compared to English teams over the last ten years.And there amazing Spanish national team,winning the Euroes and the world cup.And most off there team continues,to play in there own league.With a few exeptions,who recently came to the EPL for the money.And that is all that there coming for.If you think its about the football,then you really are deluded more than I had first thought.EPL is the richest league that is all.And its rich as big clubs,are not paying there debts.And that cant last for ever.If you ever watch Dispatches on C4,how to buy a football club.A few months ago when it was on.It made the English game,look even more grubby than corrupt Italian football in the 90ties.Clubs being sold to one man,against the fair play rules.Puppet managers with people in the shadows,making the decisions.Like Bryan Robson was ready to do.Scottish football might be bad,but at least we still have our soul and integrity in tact up here.Ally {Ed001's Note - UEFA ranks the European leagues, the Premier League is ranked Number 1, Spain is number 2.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well they won't get the same backing so it won't happen however much you want it to so please leave it alone now it's getting boring

Agree0 Disagree0

England are ranked really high to bye Ueafa.Even though they never have made a magor finals since 66.We will see were you are next year.After the joke performances bye the Manchester clubs in the champions league.And after England get dumped out there group in the Euroes.Ueafa has Scotland ranked 47th in the world.And yet we still managed to beat Denmark,who were in the 20ties.And had been to the world cup.I would not look to much into them.Your making out that its Rangers and Celtic fans shouting about playing in England.When in reality its English people,that keep bringing it up.As I Rangers fan I am happy with playing in the champions league.And being the most domesticly sucsessful club side,that the world has ever scene.So stick your EPL coperate souless money league,were the sun dont shine.I am not interested in it at all.I would rather see another Brit cup.It would be a TV money spinner.And it would provide lots off interest.Cant see that working though,as we would need to do away with the league cup.And un like Scotland,your teams gain a European slot bye playing there.Even if plenty off your teams,play weakened teams in it.Ally

Agree0 Disagree0

Was going to move to Scotland - lovely place, very nice people. But I am a football man and I love going to games and just couldn't bear to go to SPL games each week because of the poor standard. So, whilst I understand the passion of the Scott's, I do have to agree that really there shouldn't be a place in the Champions League for the winners unless they have proven themselves at the top level first. (In fact I don't even agree with the automatic qualification of anyone other than the Champions in all the strong leagues like La Liga, Italian, German, English all where these 2nd, 3rd, 4th placed teams are far far stronger than anything Scottish football has to offer). One chap here mentions years gone by and it is very fair to say that the gulf in English v Scottish football has widened considerably since the late 70's - early to mid 80's to the extent whereby the best teams in the SPL and mid-table Championship sides are comparable. It was also around those times (when Scottish football was at it's, never achievable again, best) that class playerslike Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, etc moved South. Let's face it, any decent ones ever since have done the same and Scottish football have to live with average to good players only, many imported from the lower leagues of those mentioned (e.g. championship, lge 1, etc). Gary Hooper is an example.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers and celtic would mid table the prem with generous backing,sadly much like the spl some teams are being left to rot while the top teams reap the tv money

Agree0 Disagree0

They would nered some serious backing! Needed to have got out and moved South 15 Years ago. Both now far too distant from the class teams in the top leagues. Like I say comparable really to average Championship now. Sad!

Agree0 Disagree0

Davie Cooper was probably the best entertainer of his generation.And he never moved to England.Rangers have proved them self in Europe.It was not long ago,that we were in the Europa league final.And most teams in EPL,have not made the last four off the champions league.The only reason we never made the final,is down to Marseille cheating.They even tried to bribe Mark Hateley.Bernard Taip,there chairman got the jail that year.The champions league should be for champions.The clue is in the name.And the championship is not as cracked up as you think it is.Craig Levein said last year.He saw more low qualit games there,than anywhere else.And he used to boss Leicester.I agree with him as well.He knows more about the game,than most of the texters in here.Ally

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not the champions league its the money league now, celtic were the first British club to bring the European cup to British soil in 1967 when money was very scarce!

Agree0 Disagree0

Davie cooper ,was he tommy cooper brother , just like that? great entertainer , funny as, just like that! oh and your sweaty boss (useless) craig levein wants matty philips for the national side, thats a turn up!!

maximus

Deluded or wot i havn't laughed so hard in a long time till i read these posts from the scots....rangers and celtic would get battered in english football...FACT and u couldn't compete even if u had billions as who would wanna move to Glasgow

Agree0 Disagree0

What is up with wanting Phillips for the national side?He is 20 years old,and can get a lot better.We are also after Shelvey who is also at Blackpool.Another young guy that is 19 I think.Good news for Billy Stark to,and the Scotland under 21 team.Shelvey told Adam and King Kenny,that he wants to play for us.I never knew about Phillips.Its good news if he is as good as James Forrest.It shows we have good wingers coming through.Scott Allan at WBA,and Gregg Wylde at Rangers.And even Peter Pawlett at Aberdeen.Fleck to can play the wing.And Bannen played wing for our under 21 team.And we still have Driver and Templeton to be capped yet,and Humphrie and Murphy.Yes there is a lot off decent wingers around just now.Just like in the old days,when our teams had them coming out our ears.Ally

Agree0 Disagree0

Shelvey told adam and kenny he wants to play for scotland , when? i speak with adam most weeks and never told him that! utter complete bulls**t just like your pub food football! phillips will play for england not trash

maximus

Agree0 Disagree0

You live in a dream world Maximus.Adam keeps good company. Its up on line,if you care to read since November.And I actually did used to know a Scotland international,playing in the EPL.I could easily lift the phone to his cousin.And ask her to ask him,what he has heard on the matter.Glasgow is a small world when it comes to football.And Adam probably would never talk to you.If he knew the crap,that you were posting about his nation in here daily.Your only friend is the donkey.Only cos it cant escape from you,cos you chain it up.A.M {Ed001's Note - A.M. I think you will find you are getting egg on your face on this one mate. I can vouch for Maximus speaking to Adam regularly, whether you believe it or not for once he is being serious.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Shelvey and Phillips not pick Scotland?How many caps do you think,that they are going to get for England?Look what happened to Ablonglahor,who hardly plays for England now.He could have started every game for us.If these guys have the cahnce to play for us.They should think long and hard about there future.And so should the McEachran fella to,for that matter.If these guys come to us young.The fans will respect them,and take to them.Rather than waiting till there 25,to declare there aliegence.How do you know,about Maxi then ED?A.M {Ed001's Note - I just know how he knows him mate.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Not saying they wouldnt pick scotland ,and your probaly right about not getting many games for england , and more for scotland , just saying that it was scotland who are asking the questions wether they can play for them!
phillips has played for england under 20 s
tourament and they never scored a single goal, his granparents are scottish ,so he can play for you! up to him. does it really matter how i know charlie , just do, meet all his family from dundee , nice people!

Im seriously getting to the stage where I cant be bothered to look at this page. Every time there is a post mentioning Rangers or Celtic or anything with even the slightest connection to Scottish football there will be a whole host of replies from people with nothing better to do than slate it, often with no reference to the original rumour whatsoever. Please get a life.

I would like to set a few people straight about the state about of Glasgow Celtic's finances:

Celtic are one of the very few clubs in Europe which operates in the black financially, there is absolutely no need to sell any of the first team squad and there are funds available to strengthen.

Rangers are skint and because they get grouped together with Celtic as the 'Old Firm' people seem to assume that Celtic must be in the same situation.

As for some of the prices being touted on here for some of our players, 6million for our top striker for example? The most recent precedent for one of our top permormers going to the Premiership was Stan Petrov and he went for 8 million. Allan hutton from the dark side to spurs was 8million too and the market has only gotten more expensive since then.

Hooper is only 23 and has already established himself as a player capable of performing against very good European teams. I am not in the least bit surprised teams are interested in him and various others but I am shocked at people who expect to get them for knock down prices.

Mac

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Hooper would be a good signing but not sure Celtic really want to sell him considering the posts that I have read from the Celtic fans. Equally they have no need to sell. If we are interested in buying then might be worth taking a look around the Rangers squad. Considering the finacial difficulty they are in maybe there is a deal to be had? Shame to take advantage of another teams plight but as someone once said, "football is business, and business is business". Whoever Saints go for we need to make sure they have lots of pace as that is one thing Lambert does not have!

With all due respect, the Championship may, on the whole, be a better league than the SPL on the whole...but for Hooper to choose Southampton over Celtic could only be a choice based on leagues not on clubs (though still a possible dictating factor.) Anyway I can't see him being allowed to leave, as if the goals were to suddenly dry up, and the the league to look in doubt, the board would be crucified...probably literally.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

11 Jan 2012 18:38:41
Just a small fact for all deluded southampton fans who seem to think they are about to sign celtic striker gary hooper,you couldnt afford him,this is a player who outscored an average player in andy carroll last time he played in the championship with a struggling Scunthorpe side and we all know how much liverpool payed for him,so if you want him payup what he's worth and stop thinking because he plays in scotland that celtic will roll over and accept a cheap offer for a top striker.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Top striker!LoooL!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm no Southampton fan but I do know I have seen enough of Hooper to also know that it is you who is deluded if you think he's a TOP striker. Remember a TOP Striker for the Scottish League is probably equivelent to a very average striker in the English Leagues (and definitely not Prem material). Hooper is "alright" and he's also a nice lad but let's not get carried away here with another Chopra, Miller, Boyd, te all!

Agree0 Disagree0

You forget that Gary Hooper played for the current Saints manager at Scunthorpe and would relish playing for him again...

Agree0 Disagree0

He might relish playing for adkins again but southampton would need to meet celtics valuation of £8-£10m for the player or he doesnt go, its that simple! what part do you not understand?

Gary Hooper to sign extended contract with Celtic, he has no wish to leave, and will not sign for Southampton as thats a step backwards.
___________________________________

2 steps forward if you ask me
___________________________________

Why would it be a step back moving to Southampton?
I don?Ǭ¥t get why people make out Celtic to be such an amazing team. They win leagues and get into europe becuase they are in the SPL...and let?Ǭ¥s be honest it?Ǭ¥s a joke of a league. If Celtic were in the prem they would struggle to make the top half.
If Hooper was to move to Saints and play in the prem next year ( if we wentt up) he would become a much better player as he would playing against much, much stronger teams with much better defences.
The prem is one of the best leagues in the world whereas the SPL is a million light years away from that standard.
And Celtic fans get off their high horse about their amazing supporters because I have watched many games where Parkhead has not been anywhere near full.... and they have good away support because scotland is so small and they don?Ǭ¥t have to travel far atall and I would like to see Celtic takes 3,000 fans to away games in the third division like Southampton did on many occastions.

So, stop trying to put us down and make out that Celtic are this amazing club who win titles and have the best supporters.

If he joins Saints it would be THREE steps forward.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

20 steps forward if you ask me!

maximus

Agree0 Disagree0

I cannot believe you think that Celtic could get even close to half way in the English Prem. there is no Scottish Team that could survive in the EPL and I would position them and the slightly better Glasgow team that play in blue around mid to bottom half of the Championship!

Agree0 Disagree0

Also I can't believe that Southampton fans believe that Hooper would be a decent acquisition. If you want to get to the EPL (and you are looking reasonable value for that) AND STAY THERE then you need more than Gary Hooper can offer up front. Fact!

I wouldn't want Matt Ritchie! He looks ok in league two but we're building a squad for the championship and I don't think he'd cut it! We should knock this one on the head and do all we can to keep Pugh! It's a prolific striker we need... Anyone remember when Reading were a small club? Money changes things... Look at us in 3 years time..... Up the cherries

This is like the tenth Bournemouth fan I've heard saying reading are where they are because they're rich! Apart from prem years our average signing is of league one cost! Our strike force cost us less than a few marbles alone!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're talking about building a club. I remember elm park with 5000 average gates! Madjeski built you a club and the fans came, we know we're not the next man city but the promise of stability and a good team, good ground and the aim of being a championship club will bring in the fans, we are a massive town and to have an average of 6000 is shocking but the club has been from one crisis to another, reading is our Russian owners blueprint because he sees the potential in the town for a good football club like madjeski did! You came a long way in a short time thanks to that man

So Let's start an interesting debate:

Readers proposals for best player through each decade starting say with the 60's. Here's my starter for 10. Just a few points to mention in my thinking (longevity of, and respect for, career has been considered noticing that I have included none of the undoubtedly talented players that made as much headlines for screwing up their lives, or parts of it as they do for those undoubted skills):

1960's: Pele
1970's: Cruyff
1980's: Dalglish
1990's: Zidane
2000's: Xavi
2010's: Messi (provisional but so far)

Believable3 Unbelievable2

60's i'd say pele 70's got to be gerd muller 80's maradonna 90's gianfranco zola 00's christiano ronaldo 10,s messi {Ed001's Note - what about Zidane? He was far better than Ronaldo!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Consider Gerrard and Ronaldo for 2000-2009; Platini maybe worth a mention earlier of course and also David Beckham (ok that one was a joke!)

Agree0 Disagree0

Now Maradonna, like Best, like Gasgoigne (sorry if spelt wrong Paul) was a complete mess off the field, and a short termist in "decent" football longevity, and no role model to anyone which is why he was not noted in my initial list (read the notes in brackets). Dalglish was (in my reckoning) the most complete and intelligent player of his era and a match (on his day) for the others on the list. Plus a pretty decent role model. I completely agree with Ed re Zidane (which is why I had him there) pure class personified!!

Celtic WILL NOT be selling ANY 1st team players this window...straight from neil lennons mouth...and southhampton fans dont get too cocky coz your doing alrite in the english 2nd division and spending a bit of money...do you not remember hull?? And they are DIRE! Celtics squad is developing as a unit. Average age on matchdays of the entire squad is 22. We've unearthed some absolute bargains in ...wanyama, izaguiree, kayal, adam matthews...and with really promising youngsters bursting into the team. WE DO NOT NEED TO SELL and will not be selling...so forget about hooper, it aint gonna happen. He loves it up here...football and his off the field life. Its not as bad a place to be as you lot would love it to be...just ask larsson, hartson, suttin etc....they all loved it coz a were just simply a 'special club'...HAIL HAIL

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Who would really want to buy if you were to sell. You've not had a decent player since you sold Dalglish to Liverpool in the late 70's. A true Scot whilst he is even he knew then he'd have to move South to play real football to the level of his ability.

Why on earth would hooper want to move in January ? When celtic are chasing a domestic treble. If he goes it will be in the summer , which I still doubt would happen , would you want to play for a team who are battling relegation year after year never going to play European football ? Or continue to gain more experience being a WINNER & playing in a potentially world class team with an average age of 23.5 against top teams in Europe , think about it for a second before you open your mouth & spout out your usual " mickey mouse league " " EPL is best league in the world " Yawnnn

Believable1 Unbelievable2

EPL is not the best league in the world but it is not akin to the English conference whilst the Scottish PL is I am afraid. Oh and yes you raise another important point - that it is a complete joke that FIFA can afford the SPL a place for it's winning team (I cannot and will not refer to them as the champions) in the Champions League. They really have to get the BEST Teams in this competition and no Scottish Teams Qualify for that category I am afraid. Gary Hooper is a decent goal scorer at the level he is playing but he never looked above the standard when playing for Southend United also (English League 2).

i dont need to ask SEPP or anyone else, its the money league not the champions league, thats what it comes down to, the rich clubs get a bigger share of the product and the smaller clubs get a lot less and share the crumbs..... {Ed001's Note - it is about time they returned to 1 place for the champions of each country and, if they didn't win their league, a place for the reigning champions. None of this 4th, 3rd and runners up to the Champions League any more. I am sick of fans in the Prem being more interested in their team getting 4th than winning a cup, it is wrong.}

Great response, why settle for fourth, its like an automatic right of failure, if its called the Champions league then let it be, but if its the 4 from England Spain Italy and 1 from scotland after they have 3 qualifiers then its not 'Champions' league its 'Money' League! feel free to comment... {Ed001's Note - I really can't stand what UEFA have done to football, it has become a joke and a not very good joke at that. Ed025's Note - speculation my friend..we are desperate for money...but for any of our players to want to move to stoke, sounds sillly. why would they want to leave a club with our history and tradition, and fantastic support...to play hump ball..?

---------------------------------------------------
Don't care if you post this, this is just for Ed025, whose constant Everton tinited glasses, keep him from seeing the truth, that Everton are no longer that much of an attractive option. FACT

Have to laugh at this constant 'lazy journo' patter. Your last goal against WBA was lumped in the box, hit and hope. You manager a total on 0 shots on target against us and for what it's worth, Cahill is past his best and overrated and personally, think we could do better. The fact is it doesn't matter where you have come from, it's where you're going. This is our 4th consecutive season in the Premier League currently sitting 8th and European football as well. I would concern yourself with Everton's failings a bit more. We'll see where players end up, but all we hear is Sunderland fans and Niall Quinn saying, 'Stoke can't afford KJ or he'll never end up there etc' the same with the last window regarding Crouch. Face it we are a more stable club with better finances and aspirations. There is no right or wrong football, only winning counts and lets see where our respective clubs finish. I appreciate that Everton have good history but so do Leeds, Sheffield Wed, Forest, Derby. The list goes on, where are those clubs now. {Ed001's Note - I have to say, Stoke's football is at least as entertaining as Everton's 10 men behind the ball style of football.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I'd have to agree, despite detesting Everton with a passion noone other than a keeper with a long kick and a centre forward with good ability in the air, but no passion for the passing game, should want to join Stoke. Their style is an embarrassment to the English Prem and the sooner relegated the better!

Look players dont want to go to Bournemouth you are too small and today you have bid for Tubbs and that has been rekected there is no way you will get Ritchie for 500k seems you bid upto 600k in November for him plus he has stated he wants to stay as there is a revolution going on at STFC and we will be abaove you soon in league status.

Just get used to the fact you are a small club and always will be.

with so many ridiculous referee decisions made this season already, maybe its about time the refree's are made to explain their decisions to the viewing audience after the final whistle? - as we are made to pay so much to watch a sport which is becoming so heavily influenced by referee's then surely the least we deserve is an explanation for the decisions rather than them being just commented on in the TV studio!
