Southampton Chairman Nicola Cortese has given Nigel Adkins £5m to spend this January but so far the Saints chief has only spent £50,000 on Richard Chaplow and some more on keeping Adam Lallana at the club, Cortese want Nigel to make a statement of intent by making a big name signing but as Nigel has stated previously, he won't sign someone just for the sake of it. Guly Do Prado is likely to sign next week with a reported £750,000 plus £100,000 on promotion has been touted.

I am friends with one of the Bristol City coaches and have been told the following.
Bristol City are interested in Liam Sercombe and Ryan Harley both from Exeter City and have placed bids of around 500k for each of them. They are also looking to sign Patrick Van Aanholt on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season. With Nicky Maynard just returning from injury and an operation set fron Jon Stead, Millen is also trying to sign Adam Le Fondre for 750k.

My view is that he would be a good appointment for Liverpool, young manager who has done well with not alot of money and if Liverpool were to back him with cash then you would be looking at a good Liverpool team. As for Moyes well a few voices up here ( Scotland) have been saying he will be Celtics next manager. He will defo not be getting the Man Utd job as in my opinion that is going to Mourinho. Whats your views on next perm Liverpool manager ed? Cheers {ed's note - I can see the thinking on Coyle, but my leanings are towards either Sean O'Driscoll or Michael Laudrup myself. But I certainly wouldn't be disappointed by Coyle.}

Just before the start of the season myself and few mates were at Hamilton races on the sat night. Anyway i heard from my mate last night and hes heard that Owen Coyle is being considered for the Liverpool job at the end of the season and that David Moyes is seriously considering quiting Everton due to alot of trouble behind the scenes. Huth has at least another season left on his contract after this season so will not leave on a free. He's loving his football at Stoke and would only leave for a champions league team. Certainly won't go to Liverpool for 5m like some suggest. Stoke paid that much for him and has steadily been our best player over past two seasons.
If no big transfers this window expect Stoke to spend BIG in the summer.
