Pompey will play their last ever game at Hull tomorrow.

The club will be wound up early next week, and the league will continue to run with 23 teams.

Football League officials will then meet at an EGM to discuss promotion/ relegation from the Premiership, Championship and League 1.

It could be that an extra side is promoted from League 1, or that the Championship side which finishes in 22nd place is reprieved from the drop.

A new AFC Portsmouth could begin life in the Zamaretto South West league as early as next season, playing at Moneyfields or Westleigh Park. They would ironically take the place of another now defunct side - Bromsgrove Rovers, who were wound up before the start of this season.

Fratton Park may be sold for housing or to Network Rail so that the TMD depot at Fratton can expand.

Along with Dudley, Poole, Dunstable and Wakefield, Portsmouth will be one of the largest urban areas in the UK without a league football side.(10)(3)

Have heard loads od rumours about antoine-curier joinig swindon. does anyone know if this is true and if so when will the deal be completed?

Swindon are interested in signing Antoine-Curier, and kit's just a matter of him agreeing terms and moving down from Dundee to Wiltshire.

He's a nomadic player, but is looking to settle for good - and he guarantees goals (check out his scoring record) so would be a good signing for them imho, and there doesn't seem to be too many rival bids for him.

Rhys Weston could also be moving to the County Ground (but this would be a cash deal as he is still under contract unlike Antoine-Curier who can sign for nothing) but Leigh Griffiths looks set for a move to Leeds United to team up with best mate Rob Snodgrass.so when do you reckon the deals if they happen will be completed by

1st week of November at the very latest for Mickael Antoine-Curier.

Rhys Weston may be longer, as he is under contract.fair enough. hopefully before yeovil

I'm from Dundee but Celtic fan so the following is the truth:
Curier- poor performer at Dundee, most fans not the slightest bit concerned if he were to go. Had a decent spell with Hamilton but hardly going to turn into a goal scoring machine at Swindon.

Weston - good looking player - remember this is the 1st divison in Scotland we're talking about, hardly Grade A!

Griffiths - will be sold in Jan window to highest bidder. DFC dpendent on selling him and Harkins to ensure they continue trading. Approx half the money req'd to come out of admin in place, further £250k needed to ensure lifeline. Fans will not be able to do this alone(1)(1)

Just to let all the teams who are linked with Jordan Henderson, Lee Cattermole or Darren Bent. They are going no where, doesn't matter how much money in wages you throw at them. Henderson is a Mackem through and through and has loyalty to his home town club, Bent loves Sunderland and Cattermole is a north east lad aswell. So Unlucky people they staying at Sunderland!(4)(20)

I've been saying and posting since Monday, that the Rooney "story" was purely prefabricated hyperbole! He was never ever leaving!

The English sporting media are at the beck and call of Machester United, and more directly Ferguson and Gill, anybody with a grain of common sense would have noted that whenever another team (Big four, especially Liverpool), has a large slice of media coverage, United quickly create "a story" in order to swing the limelight focus straight back on them!

And guess what, history has repeated itself yet again!

I can't believe the collective press can be still manipulated to in this manner, Sky Sports News being the biggest supporter and spreader of this propaganda - they are an absolute joke!

Any news is good news, is United's ethos, fine, but I wish the press would grow a backbone and only report news that has credence, not orchestrated, attention seeking trite!(23)(17)

 22 Oct 2010 17:32:43
Sven Goran Eriksson has made a last ditch attempt to sign Wayne Rooney. Apparently Rooney wasnt aware of Leicesters interest, and has now changed his mind again.(39)(14)

Artur Boruc with a January loan move to Aberdeen, all over the polish press & Boruc needs first team football again & would join the Dons but stumbling block might be his wages, a sponsor might be needed.

Rangers sounding out a move for hearts Suso Santana approx £200,000, from a good source rangers are needing a bit more pace & suso fits the bill. watch this space.(8)(26)

 22 Oct 2010 13:02:14
Frankly I think that Rooney just did one last favor to United. Having now 5 years on his contract, he will be much closer to last summer's City/ RM valuation of him of 80-100 million, and with Mancini having tasted being so close to signing him, a summer bidding war is imminent.(12)(28)

 22 Oct 2010 13:02:53
ITS OVER! Rooney finally signed a new 5 year deal.(39)(11)

 22 Oct 2010 12:50:35
Ed,

looked at yours and morty's comments last nite,

and watched the liverpool game, i thought they did ok going of whats bin happeneing and left best players at home, also watched hoofburn on the mnf that was painfull, so think if hodgson picks strong team say 4-3-3 and goes for it, i think (and please other people its just my opinion )you will win .

oh and i will put at least £1 on my scores.

maxiums {ed's note - do you really think Hodgson will even attack unless we go a couple of goals down?}(30)(1)

 22 Oct 2010 12:46:36
Rooney just signed new 5yr deal, still think fans will give him stick, f ker just caused all that for the big money deal.(24)(8)

 22 Oct 2010 12:17:38
Will people stop being idiots and linking Rooney with Everton or Tottenham. Rooney has stated that he wants to move as UTD lack ambition to bring in top players. Who do you think is more likely to win the league from these 3

Not even Rooney would be stupid enough to sign for City as neither him or his family could never Leave the house. Chelsea is possible but I would imagine Ferguson will do whatever it takes to prevent that as they are already dead certs to win the league.

Spain is the most likely destination with Madrid being more likely to stump up the highest transfer fee, although bot Madrid and Barca have players that Fergie would be interested in so expect a part exchange. I would guess one of Higuain, Benzema, Bojan, Pedro or possible even Alonso to be going to OT as a makeweight.(7)(19)

 22 Oct 2010 12:00:48
Heard from a Sun journalist that United are trying to swap Rooney for Kaka and karim Benzima from Mourinhos Madrid . Apparently Jose's idea . Hope it's true !(15)(38)

 22 Oct 2010 12:00:48
Both Leicester City and Cardiff City will soon battle it out to sign Ishmael Miller on loan from West Brom.(37)(10)

 22 Oct 2010 11:54:24
SAF wants Rodwell and is willing to let everton have first refusal on WR but they cannot match his ambitions financially so this deal is a non-starter.(7)(25)

 22 Oct 2010 10:34:54
Spurs will push forward with plans to add centre halfs cahill and agger (give him a lifeline), bassong will be used as a makeweight to either club? one forward will come in if van der vaart txt's and phone calls work? no talk of any midfielders as yet although a couple may go? as for bale he will not be sold for at least two to three years his the chsirman and managers words! on a personal observation i think ashley young WILL come this january! bentley and keane going the other way! {ed's note - Agger? You know he has back problems don't you? Good defender when fit, but he would be just like King, in that he will miss as many as he plays. Do you really think 'Arry would want to add another injury-prone centre back?}(8)(15)

 22 Oct 2010 08:48:50
Antoine curier is going to barnsley on a year contract, and doncaster rovers to sign febian brendy on a short term contract(9)(34)

 22 Oct 2010 03:26:52
Liverpool's new American owners are still backin Roy Hodgson despite a terrible run of results and the new owners are apparently going to put there money where there mouth is by giving Roy £40m plus player sales to rejuvinate the squad outs will be Sotiris Krygiakos£3m, Maxi Rodriguez£5m, Ryan Babel£8m, Charles Itandje£1m, and the 5 lads out on loan all have permanent options on their contracts so they could generate over £20m Alberto Aquilani£13.5m, Philipe Degen£1.5m, Daniel Ayala£2m, Emiliano Insua£4.5m and Nabil El Zhar£1.2m Roy could have around £70m if all goes well and he has identified a number of players he would like to bring to the club Daniele de Rossi{between £20-25m}, Brede Hangeland{between £5-10m}, Fabio Coentrau{between £15-20m}, Emmanuel Adebayor£17m, Ashley Young£21m, Keisuke Honda£12m(54)(36)

 22 Oct 2010 03:44:03
"We won't sign Bale either as Tottenham are trying to build a squad so they wouldn't sell one of there best players."

So Villa would but Spurs wouldn't? Do you even think about what you type? Young's not going to United, he has already said the only place he would go is back to London, which he's not going to do anyways. . (22)(12)

Might be wrong but thought you could only have two loanees from one club and we already have two from Man City(33)(24)

In a typical tit for tit and increasingly desperate response, Ferguson and Gill have moved to sabotage City's on going deal for Pato. The reality is that Pato is certainly unlikely to go anywhere until the Summer anyway for a fee of £45 million or more with huge wage demands that Utd even with the sale of Rooney will not back. It appears Utd would accept an immediate swap deal for Pato +Cash (January)in order to keep Rooney away from City, Chelsea and Real Madrid. Unfortunately for United, Milan rate Pato higher than Rooney and will not even consider this deal. Adebayor's stock has risen with a Euro hat-trick last night. Believe it or not but, He has been admired by Milan for a long time.

The voice has spoken. (6)(14)

 22 Oct 2010 07:31:43
ROONEY.

Just heard that a player backlash led by Patrice Evra might see Rooney warm the bench until january. Ferguson won't have the squad upset.(19)(14)

 22 Oct 2010 08:02:31
Rooney is set to ditch a planned move to Man City, after protesters gathered outside his Cheshire mansion home last night.

Rooney is worried for his long-term safety, and knows that a move to Eastlands would only anger fans of United further, so he is to look at a move abroad with Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid the favourites to sign him.

A move to Spurs is possible, but Rooney would want regular Champions League Football and if Spurs cannot provide this guarantee he won't sign for them.

As for Everton, there is no chance of Rooney going back there with or without current wife Colleen.

Expect a divorce, the celeb mags to go into overdrive, and Rooney abroad by the first week of January 2011.(18)(29)

Liverpool News
