They have now returned to England but Dier, who has attracted interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal in the past, stayed in Portugal to develop his game and is contracted to Sporting until 2013.

Why do people post such rubbish as "they're having preliminary talks" - that's called "tapping up". If they were negotiating with the player then a) an announcement by one of the clubs would have been made to say they'd reached an agreement and b) the talks would take place at the boardroom of the buying club, not the MARRIOTT HOTEL!

With Damien Comolli installed as 'Director of Football Strategy' any manger who comes in will have to work well with him. This rules out some of the more experience managers as we have seen in the past at other clubs, they feel resentment with other people getting involved.
Kenny Dalglish is happy to work with Damien Comolli so he can focus more on the pitch, and so far the relationship is appearing to work well. If Kenny Dalglish can lead the team to a Europa League finish or higher he is likely to be kept on as manager as he certainly has the fans backing as well as key players such as Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt.
NESV are unlikely to go against the fans as they have seen how powerful they are with their protests against H&G and the fact Roy Hodgson was never accepted.
However if Dalglish doesn't want the job full time or he believes he is not the right man for Liverpool, a young manager with potential is likely to be installed.

Posting in here. Comes from the same source that told me about Purslow joining a couple of weeks before he did and also of the H&G takeover before it happened. Everytime he has told me something it's been spot on.
How Spurs got Van Der Vaart.
When VDV#s transfer to Bayern fell through - he was offered to Liverpool first for £8m. We didn't have the money but Purslow and Hodgson decided to off load anyone they could. West Ham (of all clubs) offered £8m for Babel. We accepted and put him "in that helicopter". Real Madrid accepted our bid.
In the meantime - Daniel Levy got wind of the transfer and offered Liverpool more money for Babel. Babel & Agent were more than happy to go and we accepted the higher bid. Helicopte heads to Tottenham. Babel lands and is kept waiting for 3 hours for a medical - gets f ed off and leaves. We don't have time to get any money together and Tottenham call VDV's agent and offer to buy him.
Rest as they say, is history.

Steve Cotterill's rumaging around the bargain bin, and appears to be coming up trumps.
Pompey have reportedly tabled a £250k bid for Ipswich midfielder David Norris. Chances are a lot of you will hit the 'unbelievable' button ( to be fair, you probably already hit it when I said we were bidding actual money), but it's been mentioned on the Mirror's transfer pages, and a couple of Ipswich sites. He might be a big figure at Portman road, but it seems he hasn't heard anything about a new contract to replace the one that runs out in the summer of this year, so could look to move. An ideal replacement for Michael Brown, who sadly we have to accept won't be playing in a Pompey shirt again.
There's persistent rumours that Cotts is trying to get Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid in on loan until the end of the season. Reid featured for Sheffield United for the first half of the season and it's thought Steve Bruce would let him go to another club on loan.
Now, the Rohan Ricketts thing is interesting. It was believed he was training with Pompey this week - but he never turned up. Flounced off to Frankfurt on a jolly instead, apparently. So that's a 'no' for him, then.
Contrary to what someone else wrote on here somewhere, Joel Ward hasn't gone anywhere, in fact, he's looking to sign an extension to his contract in the next couple of days. The Emsworth-born player is happy playing for his childhood club, and sees the next few years as the ideal opportunity to become a vital key player for Pompey and aim to help push them into the promotion mix in future seasons.
I'm under the impression Cotterill's also keeping an eye on Olivier Kappo, but then again, I think every football manager in the Championship is as well right now. Whether anything will materialise from us in terms of an offer for him is anyone's guess, but it's worth a punt.
The other interesting rumour I've heard (and another one that's made the local fan-sites) is the rumour that Pompey are considering tabling a bid for Jason Puncheon - that's right, a man who plays for our arch-nemesis.
