I understand that an approach HAS been made for David Beckham, but that discussions are still at an early stage and it is likely to be a short term loan signing to fill a squad gap and provide cover whilst Downing gets up to full fitness. Villa also intend to deal fairly shrewdly (The usual rumoured interests – Delph, Jenas, Huddlestone, etc are fairly accurate though Bentley has more of a question mark now as his demands are thought to have put MON off) but also with the purchase of one "galactico" big name to announce their intention to make significant progress over the next 2 seasons.
What isn't being much reported is that Villa are also bolstering their 16–18 age group significantly this summer by signing some very decent youngsters with whom they can profitably deal or play in 2 seasons time. MON has made some good (and some bad) signings in his time at VP but one thing he consistently gets right is his analysis of a youngsters potential (Ashley Young – potential profit 150%+)

Adebayor is set to complete his move to Man City by the end of the week, with Micah Richards potentially being involved in a £20M plus player transfer. Bringing in the defender could make way for Eboue to move to Spain, with Atletico Madrid interested among others.
With Gallas in the final year of his contract, he could be heading back to France with both PSG and Marseille interested. With Chamakh touted as a potential replacement for Adebayor, and also being in the final year of his contract, some form of swap deal with Gallas would be possible, although separate £6–7M moves are far more probable. A move for Huntelaar may be preferable however, althouth his £17M price tag could be enough to put an end to Arsenal's interest.
Wenger may look to Lorik Cana to fill the defensive midfield void, while either Cristian Zapata or Hangeland could be targeted to add height to the backline, with Senderos and Silvestre linked with moves away.
Thus with Zapata/Hangeland, Richards, Cana and Chemakh/Huntelaar potentially joining the club, and Gallas, Senderos, Silvestre, Eboue and Adebayor moving the other way, it could be set to be a very active summer for the gunners.

Some people are saying that Alonso won't go to Real! He will 100% go Rafa wants to sell him but he is just holding out for the right price and until after the 18th July, so that Real Sociedad will not receive any sell on fee I don't know who replacement will be, Rafa may even use the cash to strengthen another position and use Lucas. I think people are forgeting that at the end of the 07/08 campain Lucas took Alonso's position and Alonso spent a few games on the bench, Lucas as then 3rd choice midf behind Gerrard and Masch. Also please stop linking Ruud Van Nistelrooy to Liverpool he is 33 and is out of action until at least October, just because Owen has gone to Man Utd, it doesn't mean that Rafa has to buy a ex Man Utd player. Just remember we signed Ince did Sir Rednose rush out and but a Liverpool player? I hope that Liverpool now get another decent striker and a versatile winger/AM like Silva. I think then it could be a productive year!

Being a Villa fan at the moment is both frustrating and concerning as MON seems to be a tad slow in signing qiuality.
Missing the window last January to build on a potential entry in to the top 4, we slide alramingly down the table playing poor, looking poor and without a quality central defender.
It looks like Downing will come on board, a good signing despite being injured but when are we going to address the fact we have lost Barry, Lauren and a keeper and have not replaced any of them. Also we need a top notch striker.
Randy Lerner has pledged money, MON won't spend, but with man City, Spurs etc all spending big and bringing in quality I see us slipping behind and the past 3–years will account for nothing.
Villa need to sign at least 5–players: Right back, Central defence x 2, central midfield x 1, quality forward x 1 . . but who

Tottenham Hotspur officials are in Milan looking to tie up deals for not one, but two ex–Arsenal central midfielders: Patrick Vieira could be coming in from Inter on a free, with Jermaine Jenas going the other way on a seasons loan (option to buy, price not agreed). All talk of PV signing a pay–as–you–play deal is nonsense, but he is willing to take a pay cut. Over at AC, Mathieu Flamini is being lined up as a shock target. I wish people would get their facts right about Chelsea. Once again I will put you straight. For the person who said Chelsea will offer £10million and Joe Cole for Upson. It won’t happen it was stated by Ancelotti at the weekend that Lampard and Cole are the main force of the midfield. Chelsea currently have ten defenders in the squad so we have cover. Also as I have said before Terry will not be going, he will get a contract increase (which is deserved). Alex will be sold to Man City for £9.5 million.
To the person who said we will sign Wheater…. get real, there is far to much talent in our defence to get that half hearted defender in. We will however, sign Adam Johnson for a fee of £7.5 million. Also Ivanovic is staying put, did you see his performance against Liverpool in the CL. That did not go unnoticed and he will sign a contract extension soon. Hilario has just signed a contract extension so he will not be going to QPR. People just need to read a paper or watch sky sports news before coming on here.
Chelsea are building a team for the future as well as competing at the moment. Players like Sturridge, Manccienne (spelling) and Stoch will be in the Chelsea squad and become the backbone of Chelsea in the future. Turnbull is debateable.
Lastly some people are worried about Ancelotti not being able to be fluent in English. Don’t worry Ray ‘Butch’ Wilkins is fluent in Italian and obviously English and that is why he is being kept on as assistant manager.

With the iminent departure of Adebayor to City have heard a few dealings through various sources that will take place in the coming week. Wengers immediate concern is his DM position and with no1 target Melo off to Juve he has turned his attention to 2 players. Matuidi and Gokhan Inler, either of these will join for fees in the region of 5mil and 8mil respectively. Wenger chased Inler last year so it is more likely for this transfer to occur, however gelson fernandes' transfer to St Ettienne suggests that a cm will depart and therefore matuidi may have a move set up. Nextly Vermalean is a cb/lb and is not going to be first choice, wenger has left the door open that should either Toure or Gallas want a transfer then Micah Richards would be the replacement. Finally is finding a suitable striker to fill ade's goalscoring void. We will not look at a 25mil striker and any deal for Jan Klass Huntelaar looks a day or 2 too late as he is going to Germany. Chamakh is an option but not wengers first choice, Obefami Martins is expected to make te swith for around 8mil, he is a target of wengers and with newcastle in championship martins can be obtained on the cheap. If this fails to materialise there is a possibility that Demba Ba will join from Hoffenheim or even Trezeguet(though this is highly unlikely). There won't be many departures only Traore, senderos and possibly another cb, watch out for interest from Ajax for Bendtner also.

Rangers FC Targets

Tonel from Sporting Lisbon is a definite signing for Rangers this season. He has already agreed personal terms and both clubs are just settling on a fee.
James McCarthur is a target for Rangers and they have reportedly already lodged an undisclosed bid for him.
Martin Stranzl is lined up as replacement for Madjid Bougherra who has agreed personal terms with Bourdeaux. Rangers have accepted a £5.5m bid for him.
Rangers have also made an ambitious bid to sign Alan Hutton on loan for a season as he is not in Spurs managers Harry Redknapps plans.
Peter Lovenkrands is another ex ger who may be returning to Ibrox as he has been invited to train with Rangers during their pre–season.
Amadou Alassane is one of Rangers' top priory targets, Rangers scouts have watched him multiple times playing for Le Havre and Rangers have already made contact with the players representatives.
Celtic FC Targets

Landry N'Guemo looked set to sign for The Hoops on loan but he has changed his mind as he said he'd rather play in the Premiership than in Scotland. He may still join.
Daniel Fox is a favourite to join Celtic from Coventry City. He is a left back and will cost between £1.5m – £3m.
Xabier Castillo was an early target for Celtic. He is also a left back but he has told Spanish newspapers that he would prefer to stay in Spain where Osasuna are favourites to snap him up, that's why Celtic are favourites to sign Daniel Fox.
Juan Carlos Menseguez is an Argentine midfielder who has attracted alot of interest from clubs all over Europe. He played under Tony Mowbray at West Brom when he joined them on loan last season from San Lorenzo. His club have priced him at £4m.
Solvi Ottesen is on trial with Celtic at the moment hoping to win a contract. If his trial is successful, Celtic would pay £500,000 to his club SønderjyskE in Denmark.

Tommy Smith is a leading target for the Royals but there has been reports of Reading tapping up the Watford striker. He is intrested in reuniting with his old manager Brendan Rodgers at the Madejski Stadium. Sheffield Utd are thought to have had a £1.8m bid for Smith accepted by Watford.
Nathan Tyson is an ex Reading star that could return as the Royals are ready to offer Nottingham Forest £1m for him.
The man Reading want to replace Kevin Doyle is Leeds Utd Striker Jermaine Beckford. Reading have already spoken to Leeds about the players services and a fee of £2.7m has been offered from Reading.
Reading have also spoken to Chelsea about taking teenagers Michael Mancienne, Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand on Loan. Brendan Rodgers has worked with all three players and has a good chance of landing them.
Daniel Fox from Coventry is another Reading Target but he is favourite to join Celtic (as listed above).

MASSIVE News from Anfield.
Firstly the inevitable: Alonso is going to Real Madrid. This is to be announced on Monday 20th July. Fee to be £26M rising to £29M after appearances.
Alonso to make public statement expressing his desire to move to Madrid and his respect for Benitez, thus absolving Rafa of any blame for "resentment" between player and manager.
Also announced on Monday will be the SENSATIONAL NEWS that DAVID VILLA AND DAVID SILVA will be signing for LFC. Figures to be finalised, but it will be in the region of £40M + player exchange of Voronin, Reira and Daniel Pacecho (loan).
LFC have actually been in negotiations with Valencia since April, however were waiting to finalise the Alonso situation before closing the deal.
There will also still be enough money for the purchase of Martinez. Strangely enough Mark Noble is also high up on the list of priorities.
Lastly Mascherano is most definitely staying, and will be awarded with a new contract and pay rise.
