Bolton must blame themselves

So Bolton chairman, Phil Gartside, is moaning that attendances at the Reebok Stadium are falling. I only have one thing to say to him – you only have yourself to blame Mr. Gartside. Though, at the end of the day, if his biggest worry is losing Nicolas Anelka, a player who clearly feels he is too big to be playing for Bolton, then he has nothing to worry about.

The thing is I do believe he should be genuinely concerned by the fact that crowds are dwindling. Ticket prices are far too high, especially in an area with such fierce competition for fan loyalty. But the main problem, in my opinion, is on the pitch, and it is the brand of football they play. Its, quite simply, terrible to watch, too focused on physical effort as opposed to skill. It certainly does not make for pretty viewing, and looks especially bad when you realise Man Utd are only down the road playing free-flowing attacking football.

Perhaps Mr Gartside would be better off addressing the problems that are causing the fans to desert the team in droves rather than whining about it. After all as chairman of the club he has the power to address the issues at hand
