quick re-brief of our targets:
Fernando Pacheco - becoming more likely, yet it is getting even quieter as there isn't much notice to this, and it is claimed to be on a loan until the end of the season.
Juan Muniz - all rounded midfielder who can easily give Tomlin a run for his place and is very competitive
Niguez - basically a full on, but younger, version of Whitehead (who is way past his peak in my opinion)

Our right back solution has been resurrected by the arrival of Tomas Kalas so there won't be any more arrivals for the Right back spot, however, two new targets who are under the radar from media have been linked with Boro. These are Tom Cairney who has been mentioned now and again, but nothing has went ahead just yet ( ). The second target is a versatile centre back who can also play in midfield, his name is Marios Oikonomou and he is only 22 years old, so has time to improve even further. He has played for Greece Under 21s and has a good relationship with Dimi Konstantopolous, who we could use to persuade Oikonomou to come to Middlesbrough.

Extra: Mark Hughes has let Robert Huth go out on loan to a Championship club. Watford are winning the race at the moment, but 2 other Football League clubs are interested.

14 Jan 2015 15:21:52
Fernando Pacheco on a loan until the end of the season may have become even more quiet, but it is still going on and is looking increasingly likely as Konstantopolous turns 37, we have Mejias as our back up at the moment and Karanka is concerned that if we get promoted, how will they cope?.

I know we still have Ripley, but he still needs experience, as that is beneficial to both him and the club, look at how Reach and Gibson turned out, an influential duo who play a significant part in Karanka's future plans.

Niguez (also known as Jony) is a younger kind of version of Whitehead is way past his peak, whereas Muniz is a more all-rounded midfielder.

14 Jan 2015 15:24:07
My mate from whom I get my information was here and I put the above names to him. Pacheco remains a target but Ivan Perez Munoz advises that Mejias outshone Pacheco at Madrid, my friend wouldn't be surprised if we swooped for a more experienced goalie whilst he knows Aitor to be an admirer of Muniz and Niguez but not interested in signing either yet (I must stress the yet apparently). He has heard nothing of Cairney but says it could be possible. There is no interest in Oikonomou though my friend is an admirer of his, Karanka has no awareness of the player. Fran Merida deal could be back on after Milos Veljkovic's loan extension failed.

15 Jan 2015 07:08:38
Fernando Pacheco is a younger keeper than Mejias, and Mejias hasn't really proven himself to be an adequate keeper who will be able to replace Konstantopolous in the near future.

Oikonomou is a 22 year old central defender who is well known by Dimi Konstantopolous as they have played in the Greece National acedemy side together, (Oikonomou was just 16 then).

Cairney is a target that is going under the radar as there has been hardly, or no mention at all, yet it is a likely possibility he could arrive in Teesside considering Veljkovic has went back to Spurs, and Whitehead seemingly past his peak and seems to be more fitted to our right back role, thus leaving just Clayton, Leadbitter and our young future prospect Bryn Morris as our only Centre midfielders. Muniz and Niguez are also potential targets to arrive in teesside.

Extra: I've been reading the Evening Gazette and it is suggested that an Emerson-type of midfielder is set to arrive on Teesside. Anyone got any idea who this could be?

Oikonomou and Dimi did not play together in the Greek youth teams because Dimi would have been ineligible to do so six years ago as he would have been 31. Furthermore, Cairney is not someone who the club have expressed an interest in but I personally would love to see him at the Riverside. Muniz and Niguez cannot be called targets yet as Boro have no interest in actually signing them, but Karanka does admire the players. As for the Emerson article in the gazette you have misunderstood. If Pacheco does come in it will be if/when Mejias departs so Pacheco can be second choice goalkeeper

I meant like player/coach type, you know what I mean, sorry about that little mix up.
And no I have not misunderstood the Emerson article as Karanka is looking for a loanee who can replace Milos Veljkovic.
I think everyone would love Tom Cairney at the Riverside! He is a good player and even though it is not out with the media, Karanka isn't impressed with Mejias, so is considering whether it'll be more beneficial to send him out on loan to free up wages or to sell him permanently to free the transfer budget up as well as the wages. What would you do if you were Karanka?

18 Jan 2015 16:35:23
Oh I thought you meant that their was some kind of friendship between the two Greeks. In fact, it's quite probable that the two have never met. The Emerson article was in no way a reference to any potential incomer, it was just to remember a fantastic player. Cairney, ideal signing. Karanka has said he will not sign a new first choice goalkeeper until the summer, but if whether Mejias is sold or loaned out, Pacheco would be the replacement second choice. If I were Karanka I'd pack the poor lad back of to Spain where he is more comfortable

27 May 2014 16:49:20
Dundee Utd are set to sign Paul Cairney on 2 year deal. This will allow Chris Erskine and Michael Gardyne to leave, artick Thistle and Hamilton interested in Erskine. Gardyne looks set to join Ross County over Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen look to replace Scott Vernon with Lyle Taylor. Also in talks to re-sign Adam Rooney. Vernon in talks with Ross County, Rangers and Fleetwood.

Kane Hemmings will begin talks with Hamilton, Partick Thistle and Dundee once he returns from trial with Orlando.

McDonald has offers from St Mirren, Ross County as well as several English teams including Brentford and Peterborough. Stevenson is in talks with Motherwell. Hamill may join Rangers but Partick and Ross County are also interested.

Stevenson has now signed a 2 year deal with Partick Thistle

Heard a strong rumour from someone I know who's a friend of one of the st. mirren directors that gilmour wants barry ferguson to replace danny lennon as our new manager, lennon will learn his fate this week, has anyone else heard this because this story is now rife, I think ferguson would be a good choice and he most certainly has the correct surname to succeed, remember the greatest scottish manager ever, anyone

Aye Jock Stein!

10 May 2014 20:02:28
Chris Eagles is wanted by Ipswich Town on a free since his release from Bolton. Kenny McClean of St. Mirren also linked with a move

06 May 2014 22:56:05
Ipswich want to sign Marek Stech and Luke Ayling from Yeovil, Kenny McLean from st mirren and existing loanees Paul green ( Leeds), Alex henshall ( Man City) and Frazer Richardson ( Middlesborough) all on free transfers Scott Loach and Paul Taylor will be aloud to leave on frees and Jack Marriott and Jack Doherty will go out on loan, Mick McCarthy will try to get Johny Williams on loan again next season from Crystal Palace, although it is unlikely they will let him go.

Reports in Welsh newspapers suggest Wayne Routledge for Marvin Emnes + 500K
Considering Marvin Emnes's form is in-consistent I think this deal would be good personally.

UTFB

07 May 2014 13:40:56
This is SURPRISINGLY true, as Marvin Emnes wants to stay in South Wales, plus at the moment, we have Ledesma, Reach, Tomlin, Adomah and Carayol who have all been on form of late, with the exception of the injured Carayol. It is likely Swansea are going to offer around £1million pounds for Emnes plus a player who isn't ESSENTIAL to their squad, which makes this rumour quite true as Swansea had bought Kenji Gorre, Jay Fulton and had also brought in Marvin Enmes on loan, in the January window, and now want to get him in on a permanent basis.

07 May 2014 17:58:23
my mates uncle works at portman rd and has inside info that Ipswich are in big financial mess owner Marcus evans wants to start recouping some of the 94 million the club owes him selling cresswell to either wolves or Norwich for around 1 million also tommy smith wanted by Swindon and finally frank nouble wanted by southend and luton

07 May 2014 19:00:26
Happy to see the back of Emnes, also heard Friend will be off to QPR if they go up with free agent Reda Johnson replacing him.

07 May 2014 19:29:16
Ipswich will sign Richardson. Please! Here you can have him just please take him

07 May 2014 21:09:50
When you say works at Portman Road you mean sells burger or is Mick McCarthy? How reliable is this?

We ain't going to sell our best players and if we do we want good money for gorgeous gorge haha

Laughable about Cresswell. Premier clubs readying bids of £3m+ for him.

18 Mar 2014 17:17:16
Yeovil Town are being linked with a move for St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean. Glovers alongside Glasgow side Rangers, plus Championship sides Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers as being interested in a player who is out of contract at the end of the 2013-14 season and there is a presumption that he will move on during the summer.

Celtic looking at Ings and Vaughen in the championship at Burnley and Huddersfield, and McKay at ICT as strikers

And are looking at Armstrong in midfield and Gary Mackay Steven on the wing at Dundee United, and McGinn at Saint Mirren

09 Dec 2013 17:42:12
Can't see you getting Vaughan unless you bid big. and I can't see that. At least £5m before they'll even answer the phone.

09 Dec 2013 18:55:07
I am not a Celtic fan. Just letting you in on what we are reading up here. And Celtic have the money, with having no Rangers in the champions league sharing the pot with them. Plus they sold players and netted 20 million. And need a new goal scorer to replace Hooper. As there new strikers like Balde has been duds. And the others are hardly setting the heather alight.

09 Dec 2013 20:17:14
It's in the papers down here as well. I don't know much about Celtic, but I did read their transfer record is £6.5m. I just don't see Celtic matching that for a player who's had a very injury prone career! I also don't see the Huddersfield chairman selling him on the cheap!

Local Huddersfield paper says "not for sale" but we've seen that before!

09 Dec 2013 21:10:35
Well they signed Sutton and Hartson who were injury prone, and they became legends for them. Also they have signed plenty of players in the same ball part as 6.5 million before just under. All he needs to do is lift the phone to Arteta, Jelavic, Naismith to ask what life is like in Glasgow. Or about how big Celtic is a club. Even if they only knewthem as the rivals.

Look all you want bfc have put 10m on Ings

11 Dec 2013 16:41:48
Celtic are a massive club, no doubt about that. Shame they play is a not very good, one horse league. A league similar to putting Chelsea in the conference.

I'd also guess that Championship wages aren't much (if any lower) than the Scott's prem. Yes, he might go to Celtic, remember though Vaughan lives in Liverpool and is more than happy there. He's just got married to a Liverpool lass and in four months into a three year contract. My guess is he's stay at little old Huddersfield till at least the summer and then if he's stayed fit and keeps his form, he's off back to the English premier league. The place a fit Vaughan belongs.
Yes I am a Huddersfield fan and I hope we keep him a long as possible, but wish him well in his career.

16 Dec 2013 12:52:44
Celtic won't be able to afford either player. Sad times when a Champions League club is priced out of Championship Strikers.

19 Dec 2013 18:40:42
Ings has had half a decent season & now all of a sudden he's valued at £10m. Utter nonsense!

20 Dec 2013 10:28:07
First of all it takes some if not all new players time to adjust to life and football in Scotland.
That is a fact so do not judge a player in there first year of a 4/5 year contract in Scottish football.

28 Aug 2013 13:05:38
Blackpool are chasing Nick Ross, Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean. All currently play their trade in the SPL for Inverness, Hearts and St Mirren.

They are also looking at a possible deal for Oldham's David Mellor as a Matt Phillips replacenment.

Isn't a winger? David Mellor has been playing at centre half. Good luck with that one.

20 Aug 2013 16:02:59
Shrewsbury Town are set to name three signings this week. Right back McSweeney who impressive in the reserves, John McGinn from St Mirren (Brother played last season, and has recommended the club) and striker James Keatings for a fee believe to be around £75k, the money coming from the lack of major wages that were being paid last season which has freed up a lot of money.

McGinn is only 1 year into a 3 year deal and happy; Keatings has only just signed for Hamilton. Likely, I think not.

I know its a rumour site but at least be realistic! The only possible is Mcsweeney

John will not be signing for anyone

18 Aug 2013 10:58:25
St Mirren are looking to take Gary O'connor on trial with a view of a pay as you play deal.
They are also looking at 2 players from Moldova.

05 Aug 2013 08:40:28
Conor newton will sign for Swfc today on loan from Newcastle. St mirren wanted him back on loan but Scottish press up there are saying he's joining us.

He will go on loan for 6 month, I am speaking to him now he is meeting Danny Lennon for lunch within the hour!

26 Jul 2013 23:50:54
Eds do you know of any new transfer news regarding Saints? an how many more signings can we expect or none? {Ed001's Note - St Mirren? St Johnstone? Which Saints are you asking about?}

Southampton, my bad! {Ed001's Note - just checking. Only thing I have heard is you have held talk with Lisbon, I believe he meant with Sporting, but he didn't know who was the target. With the huge financial issues in the league there, resulting in the players' union having to step in and pay players who had not been paid in months, I am surprised more clubs aren't exploring that option.}

Southampton fc? Cortese recently said we have signed 2 of our main 3 targets.

Thank you that's brilliant! Could we expect Dier? Him and Ward-Prowse got on exceptionally well at the Under-20's World Cup or do you expect it to be a bigger player? {Ed001's Note - I don't know who it is, Dier would make sense though, I haven't had a chance to ask any more questions yet to find out who it is.}

26 Jul 2013 23:07:26
Hibs expected to swoop for St Mirren defender Marc McAusland

14 Jul 2013 23:20:43
Halifax want Bradford duo Scott Brown and Louie Swain on season Long loans. Brown however is attracting interest from St Mirren and Partick Thistle for a possible loan move.

A loan would be a good opportunity for both of them. They both need more regular game time as part of their development.

Scott Brown is going to St Johnstone. Not Halifax or St Mirren or Patrick Thistle.

Bradford are in danger of letting go of talent if they don't get a real look at these two playing competitive football soon. Think they'll be let go at the end of this coming season if they don't prove there worth in a competitive environment. Loans would be a good move from Bradford and could lead to an easy sale.

Scott Brown to sign permanently for St Johnstone.

Scott Brown has been on our books for 3 seasons now and has hardly featured. He may be young but you would have expected a few cup/end of season appearances for him if he were going top make the grade. He lacks pace, is a bit one dimensional and his going frees up a shirt and a bitof wage for a player who will chalenge for a 1st team spot.

25 Jun 2013 15:49:41
Hibs are a shoe in for the playoffs next year without griffiths. most of goals came out of nowere not as if the team were creating them and they were tap ins. St mirren had a very young midfield last season so I reckon maybe 8th for them. Ross county Partick or Morton who will replace hearts for the relegation spot I reckon morton
